โ๏ธ Winter Is Here... And So Are The Headaches โ๏ธ
If you've noticed more headaches, neck tension, stiffness, or fatigue lately, you're not alone.
As the temperatures drop, many of us start moving less. We spend more time sitting, working indoors, scrolling on our phones, and less time getting the movement our bodies need.
The result?
๐ต More tension headaches from tight neck and shoulder muscles.
๐ต More cervicogenic headaches originating from the joints and muscles of the neck.
๐ต Increased migraine triggers from stress, poor sleep, dehydration, and disrupted routines.
๐ต More stiffness throughout the spine and upper back.
The good news is that movement is medicine.
Even a daily walk, a few mobility exercises, regular strength training, or simply getting up from your desk more often can help keep your joints moving, muscles active, and nervous system functioning at its best.
Chiropractic care can also help reduce tension, improve spinal movement, address neck-related headaches, and keep you functioning well throughout the colder months.
Don't let the winter blues, inactivity, and poor posture take control of how you feel.
Keep moving.
Look after your spine.
Take care of your health.
If headaches, neck pain, or stiffness are becoming a regular part of your week, it may be time to get checked.

๐ What tends to flare up for you during winter: headaches, neck pain, back pain, or stiffness?
โ๏ธ Winter Is Here โ Keep Moving This June โ๏ธ
As the temperatures drop, many of us start moving less, sitting more, and feeling the effects in our bodies.
Sound familiar?
โก๏ธ Tight shoulders
โก๏ธ Rounded posture
โก๏ธ Neck tension
โก๏ธ Headache
โก๏ธ Upper back stiffness
One simple exercise I often recommend is the IYWL exercise
This movement helps activate the muscles that support good posture, improve shoulder mobility, and strengthen the upper back muscles that often become weak from prolonged sitting.
Think of it as a reset button for your posture.
Try performing 8-12 repetitions of each position (I, Y, W, and L) with slow, controlled movement and focus on squeezing your shoulder blades together.
Small amounts of movement performed consistently can make a huge difference to how your body feels this winter.
Move more. Sit less. Feel better.
If headaches, neck pain, shoulder tension, or poor posture are slowing you down, we're here to help.

โHips donโt lieโ ๐ฅ
One of my favourite ways to open up tight hips โ a relaxed external rotation stretch that feels as good as it looks.
Great for:
โ๏ธ Hip mobility
โ๏ธ Reducing stiffness
โ๏ธ Helping you move more freely
โ๏ธ Post-training recovery
Sometimes the best mobility work isnโt forcing rangeโฆ itโs learning to relax into it. ๐
Hip aeroplanes โ๏ธ๐ฅ
One of my favourite drills for hip stability, balance, glute control, and improving motor control around the pelvis.
Using the foam roller against the wall gives feedback and support while teaching the hip to control movement properly โ not just create force.
If youโve got stubborn SI joint pain, poor single leg stability, or you keep feeling โtightโ on one sideโฆ sometimes the issue isnโt stretching. Itโs control.
Train the hip. Control the pelvis. Own the movement.
Fire cupping ๐ฅ
One of the oldest recovery therapies still used today for a reason. Cupping can help reduce muscle tension, improve circulation, support recovery, and leave you feeling looser and more relaxed afterwards.
Perfect for:
โ๏ธ Tight muscles
โ๏ธ Gym soreness
โ๏ธ Neck & back tension
โ๏ธ Stress & recovery
โ๏ธ Athletes & active lifestyles
No, it shouldnโt be painful ๐
Most people find it relaxing and walk out feeling lighter and freer in movement.
Now available at Auckland Health & Performance with our acupuncture services.

Shoulder pain with pressing or overhead work? ๐
This banded shoulder extension drill with pronation/supination and traction is one of my go-to exercises for lifters and CrossFit athletes dealing with cranky shoulders.
Great for:
โ๏ธ Bench press pain
โ๏ธ Overhead stiffness
โ๏ธ Push up discomfort
โ๏ธ Front shoulder tightness
โ๏ธ Improving shoulder opening & movement quality
A lot of athletes hammer pushing movements but lack good shoulder mechanics, thoracic movement, and control through range.
Sometimes the shoulder doesnโt need more smashing โ it needs better movement.
Train mobility WITH control ๐ฅ

VO2 max is one of the strongest predictors of longevity and overall health.
Not your bench press.
Not your squat.
Not your deadlift.
Strong is importantโฆ but so is your heart.
Train for muscle. Train for performance. But donโt neglect your engine.
Be a hybrid athlete. Lift weights. Run. Move well. Stay fit for life. ๐ฅโค๏ธ
Does acupuncture really work? ๐ค It's one of the most Googled health questions โ and the answer might surprise you.
Acupuncture has been practised for over 2,000 years, but it's only recently that Western medicine has started paying serious attention. And the results? Actually pretty compelling.
Studies published in peer-reviewed journals show acupuncture can provide real, measurable relief for:
๐น Chronic back, neck, and joint pain
๐น Tension headaches and migraines
๐น Anxiety and stress
๐น Chemotherapy-related nausea
๐น Insomnia
The WHO recognises it as effective for over 30 conditions. That's not nothing.
Now, it's not a magic bullet โ and it works better for some people than others. But the idea that it's "just a placebo" doesn't hold up to scrutiny anymore.
If you've been curious about trying it, it might be worth a conversation with a qualified practitioner.
