Last Star Update

Hi folks,

Unfortunately a lot of progress stalled this year due to some health issues. It’s also why the Armageddon exhibit was so last minute. There’s also the associated expenses with the final elements of post production that have given me pause.

Regardless of the fore-mentioned hurdles, I believe we can still have something ready for festival submissions in the not too distant future. Communication is already underway.

Perhaps the most immediate concern is getting the soundtrack sorted. Music is such an essential component and will no doubt have a profound effect on the film.

In reality the film should have been shipped out several years ago, it’s been a dreadfully slow grind to get to this point. Given the technology you’ll soon be able to generate an entire film with a few prompts.

This probably sounds a bit crazy, but I recently outlined a brief synopsis for a sequel to Last Star. New themes to explore bubbling in natural progression with what has come before, it was extraordinarily exciting to contemplate.

It would be different, the whole approach would have to be different with a grander production and emphasis on a timely release. Of course this would require a full team and unlike Last Star it would probably have to be funded and financially viable to achieve the desired outcome.

Don’t worry, Last Star is a self contained story but I couldn’t help but wonder what came next after watching it. Perhaps we’ll see how well Last Star is received or if there’s any appetite for more stories before expending additional energy.

Well folks, that about sums it up for now. Oh… almost forgot. I do hope to have a little surprise for you just before Christmas so keep your eyes peeled, however it might also be something you want to avoid.

Today Toitū te Tiriti has announced they’re cutting ties with Te Pāti Māori.

This split was inevitable.
When you build your movement on grievance, victimhood, and division, it’s only a matter of time before you start turning on each other.

Eru Kapa-Kingi is right to finally call out the dictatorship running TPM.

The tragedy is that it’s taken him this long to see what the rest of us have seen for years - this has always been the John Tamihere show. A party where the family tree is the leadership tree: daughter as General Manager, son-in-law as Co-Leader. Nepotism? Too right.

And while Toitū te Tiriti talks about breaking free, how do they plan to escape when the operational company itself is owned 100% by Kiri Waititi-Tamihere? Won’t be long before we see another expletive-filled rant from John’s pitbull daughter to try and defend the family empire.

The truth is, what we’re witnessing is an implosion.
The factions are busy fighting for control of the grievance machine while ordinary Māori families are left no better off.

This is the inevitable fruit of race-based politics: division, nepotism, and corruption.
It’s not about empowerment - it’s about empire building.

And there’s only one real way to end it. The Māori seats have outlived their purpose. Instead of being a voice for the people, they’ve become a playground for power-brokers and family dynasties.

👉 If we want unity in this nation, if we want every Kiwi to be represented equally, then it’s time to abolish the Māori seats - and restore one law for all.
