We're thrilled to share that 𝗪𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗸𝗮 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲 has won the NZIA Southern Architecture Award for Enduring Architecture. The award celebrates the lasting impact of great architecture as well as excellence in design.

Designed as a composition of discrete elements carefully positioned within a dramatic alpine landscape, Wanaka House sits low in a gentle gully where it gains privacy and protection from the prevailing north-westerly winds while maintaining expansive mountain views. The full height glazing of the main pavilion is grounded by the solidity of the timber-clad garage and guest studio, while a sculpted gabion wall filled with local Cardrona River stones choreographs the arrival.

Designed as 'blades through the landscape' 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲 contrasts positive and negative, light and dark to bring drama and delight to the experience of the home.

Then and now: it was a beautiful day yesterday to revisit Wanaka House. The landscaping has evolved over the years but the house has endured. Swipe to see the same view 25 years ago.
