Happening tonight!
The way photographers work is changing — and not in theory, but in practice.
James Broadbent is at the centre of that shift.
A destination and adventurous elopement photographer behind Chasewild, James built his early career capturing real stories in fast-moving, unpredictable environments. That experience led him to found Narrative in 2019, with a focus on helping photographers create their best work using AI designed specifically for the needs of the global photography community.
Today, Narrative is the fastest-growing AI culling tool in the industry, used by tens of thousands of photographers across more than 160 countries and processing billions of images annually.
At the New Zealand Photography Industry Evening, James will speak to what that evolution actually looks like — from shooting in the field, to building tools that now sit at the core of modern workflows.
Thursday 11 June 2026
Narrative, 321 Karangahape Rd, Auckland
Keynote Speakers James Boradbent and Rachael Smith 4–6pm ($10)

Just one more sleep to go!
From file to print — this is where most photographers either elevate their work or lose control of it.
Fine art printing doesn’t need to be intimidating. This talk focuses on the decisions that actually matter, so you can start producing prints that reflect your vision accurately and consistently.
We’ll cover everything from choosing the right fine art paper, to preparing your files correctly, to understanding why so many prints don’t match expectations. You’ll also get to explore real print samples that demonstrate how dramatically paper and finish can change an image.
No live printing demo — just clear explanation, practical examples, and honest insight from someone deep in the craft.
Topics covered:
• Where to begin if you’re new to printing
• How paper choice changes your image
• Preparing files for predictable results
• Why printing is essential to your practice
• Avoiding common pitfalls
• Q&A

From photographing weddings to reshaping how millions of images are processed.
James Broadbent built his name as a destination and elopement photographer through Chasewild, working in environments where speed, storytelling, and decision-making matter in real time.
In 2019, he founded Narrative with a clear purpose — to help photographers create their best work through intelligent tools designed around how photographers actually operate. Today, Narrative is used by tens of thousands of photographers worldwide and processes billions of images every year across more than 160 countries, making it one of the fastest-growing AI culling platforms in the industry.
At the New Zealand Photography Industry Evening, James brings that full journey together — from working behind the camera to building tools that are now embedded in modern photographic workflows.

Your work doesn’t end on the screen.
Fine art printing is where photography becomes real — but for many, it feels like a barrier rather than a next step.
This session removes the guesswork.
You’ll learn how paper choice changes the emotional impact of your images, how to prepare files so your prints behave the way you expect, and why printing is a crucial part of developing as a photographer.
Rachael Smith will also bring a range of print samples so you can see and feel how different papers, finishes, and preparation techniques affect the final result. This is not a live demo — it’s a practical, hands-on talk designed to build real understanding.
Topics covered:
• Getting started with printing
• Understanding fine art papers
• File preparation for consistent results
• Why printing matters for your growth
• Common mistakes and how to avoid them
• Q&A
