Māori kites are known as manu tukutuku, manu aute, or pākau, the word manu meaning both kite and bird. Kites were flown for fun, to communicate with people far away, to predict success in battle, or to locate an enemy. 🪁

Vivian's beautiful Birdman Kite is crafted from copper - sculpted, woven and twisted, with patinated verdigris sections contrasting against the warm copper.

It's a très jolie Fashion Friday today! Beautifully composited necklaces and earrings using natural materials, as only Beatrice Carlson can do!⁠

We have two necklaces and two pairs of earrings crafted from Pāua beads and natural freshwater pearls in uncommon shapes, inspired by the spot where the river meets the sea. Beatrice tells us that each bead sits "as it wishes" and that is part of the beauty of these bespoke pieces.⁠

It's so interesting to see an artist grow and excel in their craft, producing original work time after time, even when it follows a theme. Daniel Wright's copper stingrays are a case in point - each ray special, bespoke and detailed with its own markings. Families all recognisable as such. 💦⁠
