Lifting Baseline by Lisa Bate
Kiln-cast glass with copper powder inclusions and stainless-steel wall mounts
420 x 50 x 80mm
"Lifting Baseline continues a series of work drawing on issues relating to freshwater quality. Copper inclusions have been cast in glass spheres — mimicking water droplets filled with floating or hidden microscopic life, unnoticed yet essential to the ecosystem."
This work is a finalist in the Perpetual Guardian Small Sculpture Prize 2026, selected by Deborah McCormick. This exhibition runs in the Main Gallery till May 17.

Waterlog no.7
h340 x w340 x d5mm
Kiln formed cast glass, copper tube, copper & steel wire
Waterlog no.7 is part of an ongoing series of work responding to the way human interactions affect water quality.
Glass can be liquid or solid, a shape-shifting material, sharing qualities similar to water when heated. Here, the glass is controlled and chaotic, reactions that occurred during its molten and fluid state —shallow, fast-flowing.
