📣 Rent Me Rentals – We’re on top of the new m**h rules coming in 2026

The New Zealand Government has announced new regulations for m**hamphetamine contamination in rental properties, expected to take effect sometime in 2026. These will finally set clear legal standards under the Residential Tenancies Act for when a property is contaminated and what must be done about it.

🔹 A property will be considered contaminated when m**h residue levels exceed 15 µg per 100 cm².
🔹 Contaminated properties must be professionally decontaminated back to 15 µg/100 cm² or less.
🔹 If levels exceed 30 µg/100 cm², there will be legal grounds for either landlords or tenants to end the tenancy early.
🔹 The rules also set out tested m**hods and procedures so landlords and tenants know exactly what to expect.

Tenancy Services - Unenforceable clauses in tenancy agreements 16/11/2025

❗ Just because it’s in your tenancy agreement doesn’t mean it’s legal.

🚫 Some clauses are unenforceable and have no legal effect, even if written into the agreement.
Common examples include:
• Charging more than 4 weeks’ bond
• Restricting visitors or parties
• Making tenants pay fixed water charges
