Colour that belongs here, colour that lasts.

A considered architectural choice, made to sit quietly in the landscape while enduring alpine winds, snow, and sun -season after season.

Scoria on Brass Monkey Hut is more than a finish; it’s a commitment to longevity in the backcountry.

Some projects are special not because of their size, but because of the care behind them.

The Brass Monkey Hut rebuild brought together architects, engineers, manufacturers, and volunteers, guided by a shared respect for craftsmanship and for building something that belongs in its landscape. Made possible by a bequest from a passionate tramper, the project carries forward her love of the backcountry for those who follow.

From hand sketches to helicopter lifts, from alpine winds to quiet nights inside the hut, this project reflects what’s possible when generosity, design, engineering, and purpose align.

An architect’s hut.
An engineer’s sketch.
A lasting legacy for the tramping community.

We don’t often get a behind-the-scenes look at a re-roof, or the storytelling that brings renovation projects to life - especially at the level The Current Place shares with their audience.

Last year, we sat down with Chanelle and Damien to talk through their woolshed renovation. Seeing the heart, soul, blood, sweat and tears they openly shared throughout their ongoing renovation journey has been a privilege to be part of, alongside Dimond Roofing.

That passion we see with Chanelle and Damien is the same passion New Zealand’s roofing installers bring to projects every day - reflected across homes, commercial buildings and community spaces nationwide.

What’s a challenging project you’ve worked on that you’re most proud of today? Let us know in the comments
