It’s time to meet the team! Over the next few weeks we will introduce you to our lovely staff
Starting with our most recent addition Sarah
Sarah Barlow – Funeral Director
I have called Methven home for the past 10 years and feel fortunate to be part of such a supportive and caring community. As a mum to two boys who attend Mt Hutt College, family and community are values that are very important to me. I am the most recent addition to Memory Funerals with over 4 years experience in the industry.
Over the years, I've realised that some of the most meaningful work we can do is simply being there for people. That's what drew me to funeral directing. Being entrusted to care for a loved one and support families is a responsibility I consider both an honour and a privilege. I enjoy building genuine connections with the families I meet and helping them feel supported, understood, and cared for as they navigate the tough days ahead.
When I'm not at work, you'll usually find me with my boys, or at the gym, out enjoying nature, or spending time on creative hobbies. Looking after my own wellbeing is important to me, as it allows me to be fully present and give my best to the families I have the privilege of serving.
I am proud to be a part of a locally owned and operated Funeral Home caring for our mid Canterbury families.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Today was a Difficult Day, said Pooh.
There was a pause.
Do you want to talk about it? asked Piglet.
Pooh thought for a moment. No, I don't think I do.
That's okay, said Piglet, settling down beside him. Pooh glanced at his friend.
What are you doing?
Nothing much, Piglet replied.
Just sitting with you.
I know what Difficult Days feel like.
Sometimes, talking doesn’t help, but knowing someone’s there does.
Pooh let out a small sigh and leaned just a little closer.
As the two friends sat in quiet companionship, Pooh realised—some burdens feel lighter when you don’t carry them alone ❤

“A thousand words
can't bring you back,
I know because I tried;
and neither can a million tears,
I know because I cried.” 💜

❤️ Thoughtful Thursday ❤️
Speak to your departed loved ones—not with your voice, but with your heart. In the stillness of your soul, you will hear their whispers, not as words carried by air, but as knowing deep within.
You will feel their love wrapped around you like a warm breeze, and instinctively, without effort, you will understand. Their wisdom, their comfort, their presence—it lives on in you. In your quiet moments, listen closely.
What you need to hear will find its way to you.
