We could make some awesome skills development areas in our bike parks without too much effort or cost.

This adds an inclusive layer of use for those who are learning to ride, not that confident yet or want to improve their skills.

Ultimately helping to create more skilled and safer riders.

Central Otago District Council we could do this!

Good afternoon everyone.

At the Up-Cycles Charitable Trust we not only up-cycle bikes for those in need, but we also offer bike skills training and cycle education across all demographics.

If you are 8 or 80 you can learn new skills or improve your bike handling which in turn will make your cycling more enjoyable.

Whether you are learning to ride for the first time, coming back to riding after years away, wanting to tackle a particular trail, topping up your knowledge, interested in becoming one of our COBA - Community Of Bike Ambassadors or Cycling Without Age - Central Otago pilots, or in need of specific training, then please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Cycling is a lifelong activity but anyone at any stage or age can up-skill.

Winter is a great time to do some learning and development.

Get in touch…….

Another incredibly successful Bike Fixation event at The BikeHive today, and another awesome buzz around the place.

Welcome to some new veloteers - Josh, Todd and Spike, and the usual fantastic efforts from our regulars Chelsea (somehow missed off the pics), Dave and Malakai. THANK YOU everyone, you are gold nuggets.

Josh works for our good friends at Bike It Now in Cromwell, and they have kindly donated another 3 bikes which he brought along.

Spike is another young fella doing Duke of Edinburgh, so volunteering with us will help with that.

Chris donated 3 bikes and we had an awesome chat about several bike things we had in common.

Kelsey came to get a kids bike fixed…..sorted.

Tara, Logan and their lovely family donated a heap of bikes and we were able to help them with the next sizes up.

Vikram scored a new bike, as the previous bike we had donated had a damaged seat tube.

A bunch of bikes refurbed and up-cycled.

We gave out a few AA New Zealand sponsored bike light sets, and NZTA Road Codes for Cycling.

Wayne came along for an epic chat about retro and vintage bikes…..conversation to be continued.

And amongst all of the buzz, Ojas and Kiyana needed help learning to ride their bikes we had previously donated…..the magic icing on the cake today…..they are both up and rolling.🚴🏼‍♂️🚴🏼‍♀️👏🥳

Karen from our friends at Uruuruwhenua Hauora Central reached out as they have whānau recently moved to Alexandra and they were in need of transport.

Easy fix with this recently up-cycled Cannondale Comfort bike, helmet and a set of AA sponsored bike lights for good measure.

Nice!

World Bicycle Day - 3rd June

Good morning everyone.

Today (3rd) we celebrate World Bicycle Day…….🚴🏼🚴🏻‍♀️🚴🏼🚴🏻‍♀️

This is part of our mission at the Up-Cycles Charitable Trust…….

‘Changing Lives One Bike At A Time’.

Background:

In April 2018, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 3 as World Bicycle Day.

“Acknowledging the uniqueness, longevity and versatility of the bicycle, which has been in use for two centuries, and that it is a simple, affordable, reliable, clean and environmentally fit sustainable means of transportation, fostering environmental stewardship and health”.

It encouraged stakeholders to emphasise and advance the use of the bicycle as a means of fostering sustainable development, strengthening education, including physical education, for children and young people, promoting health, preventing disease, promoting tolerance, mutual understanding and respect and facilitating social inclusion and a culture of peace.

The UN Assembly welcomed initiatives to organise bicycle rides at the national and local levels as a means of strengthening physical and mental health and well-being and developing a culture of cycling in society. 🚴🏻‍♀️🚴🏼🚴🏻‍♀️🚴🏼🚴🏻‍♀️🚴🏼

So, a great and appropriate day to get out on your bikes……and post up your World Bicycle Day rides!

The cool story of these two up-cycled bikes continued today…..see link below.

Our lovely friends Trevor and Janet Karton had stored them for us in Twizel after they had been dropped off there earlier this year. THANK YOU 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Today they brought them back, ready to be up-cycled into a third life somewhere with someone new.

Awesome!
