We are working with Roxburgh Area School to up-skill some of their students with our COBA - Community Of Bike Ambassadors programme.

One such student didn’t have the means to buy a bike, so we sorted that today with this awesome full-suss Trek, and matching helmet.

Prepared lovingly by our brilliant veloteers at The BikeHive.

New grips, seat, seat post, pedals, bottle cage, stem and replacement rear shock, complete with a service it’s going to make its new owner very happy.

Hey everyone.

At the Up-Cycles Charitable Trust we do our mahi because we love bikes and all that a bike can provide. In fact you could say we are ‘bike fixated’.

And we thoroughly understand that not everyone has the privilege to use or own a bike.

Our aim is to help ‘change lives one bike at a time’ and it’s not about gaining recognition or collecting any plaudits handed out.

Another day and another bike out to help someone in need.

The team at Community Link Upper Clutha reached out as they were working with someone going through a domestic crisis, and needed transport.

We had bought a few of these cool step-through trail bikes earlier this year from a cycle tour co. and along with a helmet, this one will be a perfect solution.

Had the pleasure of handing it over to Kim from Community Link in Wanaka today.

Another BIG day at The BikeHive.

Our Bike Fixation this week involved 15 veloteers and some of the team from the MenzShed Alexandra.

Veloteers:
Chelsea, Lisa, Camille, Josh, Matt, Gavin, Nicola, Martin, Dave, Nic, James, Jonny, Todd and Spike.

MenzShed Team:
Ken, Sam & Evan.

Mission today was to move all the triage bikes and empty the ‘parts bin’ container ready for the MenzShed team to fit it out with permanent shelving. By working with the MenzShed team it is far more cost effective for our charity. 🙏🏻🙏🏻

🚲 Donations:
We had several bikes donated today…..

Big thanks to Alister who donated 2 Scott bikes through our friends at Bike It Now, including a very flash carbon Scale - (pictured with Duncan from Bike It Now).

Cynthia donated a Bauer, Margaret donated 2 x Specialized bikes, Cath donated a Trek, Jenny donated 3 bikes, Stephen & Kristy donated a Liv Giant (pictured and already up and rolling) and Murray a Specialized full suss. THANK YOU 🙏🏻

🚲 Bikes out:
Mason scored a great Merida, James scored an up-cycled Merida and 2 kids bikes, and Andy a Titanium Backroads tour bike for his collection.

Our veloteers also fixed up several other bikes, ready to be gifted to someone in need as the weather warms up.

And Camille and Matt earned their veloteer Ts today - well done team, and well deserved. 👕

An epic all-day effort to fit out the container with more to come…..need a lie down now!

This is the lovely Sarika….she reached out to us as she is going through a pretty tough time currently.

Her aim is to get out and about on a bike to help her get through this difficult period.

We had a perfect fit for her, and it was a pleasure to hand over this ex-fleet rail trail bike and helmet.

Was lovely to see her smile!

Spring is coming and our epic network of trails is growing….and there is an increasing number of people using these awesome trails. 🚴🏼‍♀️🚴🏼‍♂️

The Kawarau Gorge Trail is nearing completion and the Roxburgh Gorge gap will be finished next year, creating incredible connections across the district. 🚴🏼‍♀️🚴🏼‍♂️

At the Up-Cycles Charitable Trust we can help you improve your bike handling skills, your bike preparation, your understanding of trail etiquette and much more…..🚴🏼‍♀️🚴🏼‍♂️

Another bike out into our community…..

Our friends at Uruuruwhenua Hauora Central reached out again as they have whānau requiring some wheels.

Our veloteers had sorted this Avanti with a service, new seat, bottle cage, tyres and whole new cockpit including stem, bars and grips…..supplied with a helmet; a good fit!

Our latest Bike Fixation event at the The BikeHive……

Creating memories, telling stories, dishing out banter, having a laugh, creating a very cool community and to top off all that, doing a heap of social good.

Veloteers:

Matt & Josh brought a couple of Merida hard-tails they had rescued from Cromwell dump.

We helped a young lad needing transport to get to his probation community service, he scored a cool Bauer and helmet….hopefully will assist to get him back on track.

Megan from Journeys Central Otago donated a couple of bikes and gained a wheel for another bike in their fleet.

Surbhi, a medical student, gained a we Giant, and Andrew bought a cool Jamis to keep up with his kids. And wee Freddy (3) scored a tiny Trek for his first bike off trainer-wheels.

Nic sorted 2 bikes (Giant & Merida) for the hospital accommodation, to assist junior doctors to get about.

David got himself an Avanti commuter to get down Dunstan Rd to his work.

Josh spent a considerable amount of time sorting a full suss Trek getting it to rideable condition for a young lad based in Roxburgh, who is part of our COBA - Community Of Bike Ambassadors programme, but doesn’t have the means to buy a bike. Not only serviced with suspension parts changed, but a new seat, grips, pedals, bottle cage, and shortened stem & seat post….story to continue!

Several other bikes fixed up and ready to roll, and Chelsea led the team to do an inventory of all the A & B grade bikes we have ready.
