Here the park is not a glittery commercial flower hedge and flashy benches. It is rather an organized open land left consciously as a grazing pastures. The locally grown grasses, shrubs, flowers and trees serves as grazing field for locals to bring in their cattles throughout the year, while it also serves as a predefined land for stalls and extensive play sections during the annual meal season.

Initially being announced as one of the winners for the International Urban Design Competition September 2024: Public Open Spaces in Nepal’s Municipalities for Sunwal Municipality Kalpasara Studio was selected to prepare a DPR for the same- Somnath Haatbazzar, Sunwal Nawalparasi for UNOPS.

The essence of this project was to create a wholesome environment aiming to foster social interaction, economic opportunity, and community well-being, creating a dynamic and inclusive space that supports both the local economy and the broader community's needs. This DPR looks into a strong infrastructure which is essential to ensure the marketplace functions and supports user well-being. The goal was to create a vibrant social interactive place that goes beyond being just an economic center. Spaces like marketplace, parks and playground- is a landscape where people can connect. A place where people feel safe and inclusive.

This design has adapted the idea to upcycle and upkeep the existing structures and has also attempted to restore the vernacular essence to certain extend; which has been lost amidst the growing trend of using easy commercial material in the building industry. This design interventions brings back value of the place by adjusting and adapting to every changing requirement achieving balance between various constraints and demands.

This competition, organized by Archstorming in collaboration with Karmayog Foundation Nepal and Nepal Rising, aims to address the urgent natural disaster crisis, like the recent devastating monsoon flood September2024 and Tibet earthquake in January 2025.

Responsibility:

Project Control: Should be able to manage projects from start to finish, ensuring high-quality, innovative, and functional design.
Concept Development: Develop ideas considering client needs and building usage
Detailed Drawing: Produce detailed drawing and make necessary corrections.
Compliance: Ensure that design and plan follow all the building codes and guidelines
On-Site Visits: Visit construction sites to check project status, measurements, and report progress.

Mandatory requirements

Bachelors in Architecture
Working experience of 2 years

Shomnath Haatbazar – Cities for Women,
Is an attempt to undertake the re-planning and designing of flat land as a buzzing market place to connect people with opportunities, where culture and communities come together on the same ground. This haatbazar established as Shomnath Haatbazar, is already a magnet pulling vendors from not only in proximity to Sunwal municipality, Butwal but also creates a possibility to attract people from across Parasi District due to the East-West highway adjoining the site.
