It was a lot of fun to prepare our project in Nepal! I did learn a lot of stories about Nepal, Silk Road and other mythic asian roads... Time to share now : )
is inspired by stories and history of the Silk Road. It's time for a delicious Ice Cream and to learn where Ice Cream are actually from....
Icecream today considered as typically Italian was actually brought from China to Europe by Marco Polo from one of its journeys on the silk road. Its origins date back as far as 200 B.C. when China created a dish of rice with milk that was frozen and packed in snow. Chinese King Tang of Shang had over ninety “ice men” who mixed flour, camphor, and buffalo milk with ice. Chinese also inventied the first “ice cream machine.” with pot filled with syrupy tpacked into a mix of snow and salt. Kulfi is a very popular type of Ice cream in Nepal & south indian subcontinent. The word "kulfi" comes from Persian and means ”covered cup”. The dessert likely originated from Mughal Empire in the 16th century. Flavoured with pistachios & saffron, it was packed into metal cones and immersed in slurry ice. Reports from Mughal empire mentions that Himalayan ice was transported from Himalayan to warmer areas to freeze.
