We are excited to share that NAXA and DPNet Nepal signed an MOU to explore the use of data and frontier technologies in strengthening disaster response in Nepal. As part of this initiative, NAXA and DPNet will collaboratively work on the following activities:

Disasters in Nepal claim hundreds of lives and cause billions in losses every year. To address this, Disaster Preparedness Network Nepal - DPNet Nepal has urged political parties to prioritize 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐢𝐬𝐤 𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐃𝐑𝐑) 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞-𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 in their election manifestos.

As part of this initiative, DPNet submitted a 𝟏𝟒-𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐚𝐥 to major political parties, including CPN (UML), Nepali Congress, Rastriya Swatantra Party, Ujyalo Nepal Party, and other. The proposal emphasized on Mainstreaming DRR, Risk-sensitive infrastructure development, Community-based preparedness and local search & rescue teams, Cross-border disaster coordination, Adequate budgets, insurance schemes, and subsidies for resilient housing.

The sixth Bamboo Series event, held on November 13, 2024, in Kathmandu, focused on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and emergency preparedness. Organized by the NET Consortium with DPNet and other key partners, the event highlighted the private sector's crucial role in building resilience through strategic CSR investments, pre-disaster interventions, and sustainable practices. Experts and officials emphasized integrating DRR into CSR policies, fostering cross-sector collaboration, and incentivizing innovative, community-focused initiatives. The event concluded with task forces to enhance coordination and advance Nepal’s disaster resilience agenda.

On October 29, 2024, a post-conference review session led by NDRRMA Executive Chief Anil Pokhrel and Dr. Raju Thapa highlighted Nepal's active participation in the APMCDRR 2024, held in Manila. Key outcomes highlighted the importance of youth involvement, gender-sensitive approaches, and incorporating indigenous knowledge with modern tools. Nepal actively participated in the 2024 Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (APMCDRR), showcasing its commitment to disaster risk management. Led by the Executive Chief of the NDRRMA, a diverse delegation from Nepal, including government, academia, and civil society, highlighted the country’s vulnerability to disasters exacerbated by climate change.
