Handover and Discussion Program on Draft Local SMRHR Act of Dipayal Silgadhi Municipality, Doti

On June 10, 2026, a discussion program on the draft of Local Safe Motherhood and Reproductive Health Rights Act was conducted in Doti for Dipayal Silgadhi Municipality. The event was attended by the Chief Administrative Officer, municipal executive committee members, and representatives from the Health, Law, Education, Disaster Management, and Women and Children sections. Advocate Deepesh Shrestha presented on the draft legislation, which was officially handed over to the municipality at the end of the program. The event was moderated by Advocate Bal Bahadur Kunwar.

Launching of Election Observation Report

On 8th June 2026, FWLD organized a program to launch the "Observation Report on Nepal's 2026 House of Representatives Election: A Gender, Disability and Social Inclusion Perspective". The program was chaired by Sr. Advocate Meera Dhungana, and the Chief Guest was Hon'ble Dr. Janaki Kumari Tuladhar, Commissioner, Election Commission of Nepal. FWLD, in collaboration with 14 CSOs, observed the election from a GEDSI perspective, deploying 160 observers across 23 different districts covering all 7 provinces. Advocate Sagar Pathak presented the key findings of the observation report, highlighting the need to reevaluate election centers to make them friendly to elderly citizens, persons with disabilities, pregnant women, sick people, and others who require special assistance. Additionally, he stressed the need for a law mandating political parties to allocate seats for female candidates in first-past-the-post elections. Hon'ble Dr Janaki Tuladhar stated that the Election Commission is looking forward to strengthening the voting process through gender-responsive, disability-friendly, and socially inclusive measures. She noted that many existing shortcomings would be addressed once the Election Bill, currently under discussion, is enacted. The program was facilitated by Advocate Rojina Shrestha.

A discussion program on the draft of the Local Safe Motherhood and Reproductive Health Rights Act for Ghodaghodi Municipality was conducted on June 8, 2026, in Kailali. Chaired by the Mayor of Ghodaghodi Municipality, Mr. Khadak Bahadur Rawat, the event brought together the Deputy Mayor, Chief Administrative Officer, municipal executive committee members alongside representatives from various sections, including the Women and Children, Disaster Management, Law, and Health. Advocate Deepesh Shrestha led the discussion by presenting the draft law, which was formally handed over to the municipality at the conclusion of the event. The program was moderated by Advocate Bal Bahadur Kunwar.

Community Outreach Program

A community outreach program on sexual and reproductive health rights was conducted on June 6, 2026 in Rajbiraj, Madhesh Province. The purpose of the program was to educate community members about SRHR, along with the legal support available in the event of rights violations. The event saw participation of community members, local representatives, police personnel representatives from local networks and civil society. Advocate Suman Mishra facilitated the program and presented on the principles and legal frameworks of sexual and reproductive health in Nepal.

The purpose of the program was to educate community members about SRHR, along with the legal support available in the event of rights violations. Advocate Bidhya Sapkota facilitated the program and presented on the principles and legal frameworks of sexual and reproductive health in Nepal.

31st Anniversary of FWLD

On 29th May 2026, FWLD celebrated its 31st Anniversary with great enthusiasm, marking another year of commitment to advancing justice, equality, and human rights. The program commenced with heartfelt remarks from FWLD Chairperson Advocate Geeta Devi Aryal and Sr. Advocate Meera Kumari Dhungana, who reflected on the organization’s journey, achievements, and continued dedication to promoting gender equality and social justice.

On this special occasion, FWLD recognized and honored its dedicated team members, Advocate Rojina Shrestha and Mr. Santosh Chaudhary, for their outstanding contributions, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to the organization’s mission. The celebration also provided an opportunity to reflect on FWLD’s achievements over the years and its continued efforts toward empowering women and marginalized communities.

Colleagues, partners, and well-wishers joined the celebration, reaffirming their shared commitment to creating a more just and equitable society. The anniversary served as a meaningful occasion for appreciation, reflection, and renewed dedication to FWLD’s vision and values. The event was moderated by Advocate Nabin Kumar Shrestha.

Abortion Right: Reproductive Health Right

On May 28, 2026, FWLD, in partnership with Ipas Nepal, organized an event themed "Abortion Right: Reproductive Health Right" to commemorate the International Women's Health Day. This event drew a wide array of participants, including Honorable Federal Parliamentarians, legal professionals, representative of Ministry of Health and Food Safety and concern Ministry, government and non-government health sector representatives, representative of National human Right Commission and National Dalit Commission, civil society representatives, and reproductive health experts.
The event featured several segments. A key part of the event was a Forum Theatre. Theater team of Bajrapani Arts delivered a theatrical performance emphasizing the necessity of decriminalizing abortion in Nepal, leading to an open discussion among participants.
Senior Advocate Gita Devi Aryal presided over the event where as Advocate Nabin Kumar Shrestha highlighted the content of the program and the legal provisions related to safe abortion services and the issues that need to be amended. The program was moderated by Advocate Rojina Shrestha.
During the event, the team of YoSHAN, collaborated with SMNF contributed maintaining a health desk where participants could receive a normal health check-up.

RHRWG meeting
The meeting of RHRWG was conducted on May 26, 2026 in Kathmandu. The objective of the meeting was to discussion on the future strategy to coordinate and discuss with the concern stakeholders regarding the amendments to be made to the Safe Motherhood and Reproductive Health Rights Act, 2075 BS., discussion on the work done by this group to get the Government of Nepal to accept the recommendations made under the fourth cycle of the UPR and future strategies, information on the free legal services provided through the Legal Helpline Clinic and the work that can be done in the future. In the meeting, the members RHRWG had made important discussions on the object and provided various feedback The meeting was moderated by Advocate Nabin Kumar Shrestha.
