Expecting a Baby? Understand the Dual Marker Test
When a mother conceives, one question naturally comes to mind:
“Is my baby healthy?”
Prenatal screening helps doctors assess the risk of certain chromosomal conditions during pregnancy.
Depending on the stage of pregnancy, different tests may be recommended, including Dual Marker Test, Quadruple Marker Test, NIPT, and diagnostic tests like Amniocentesis.
Dr. Jeevan Adhikari, Head of the Center for Cytogenetics and Molecular Pathology at National Path Lab, Lalitpur, explains these tests and what expecting parents should know.
Starting with the Dual Marker Test.
If someone close to you has autism, this message is for you.
Autism is not a disease. It is a different way of learning, communicating, and experiencing the world.
Some autistic children may take longer to speak or develop certain skills, but every child has their own strengths and potential.
What they need most is patience, understanding, and support from the people around them.

How can lab investigations help children with autism?
Sometimes, tests can identify genetic conditions linked to developmental issues. Other times, they can detect problems like lead exposure that may affect a child’s speech, behaviour, or learning.
Finding these issues early can help parents understand their child’s condition better and make safer, healthier changes at home.
