🚀 Built NexusChat (Phase 1) — a modular real-time messaging platform engineered with scalability in mind.
While most chat demos stop at basic Socket.io messaging, I focused on building a production-style real-time foundation that handles authentication, presence, message lifecycle, and clean event architecture.

Over the past few weeks, I designed and implemented the following:

⚡ Real-Time Core
• Instant messaging with Socket.io
• Live typing indicators (debounced)
• Online/offline presence tracking
• Message lifecycle → Sent ✓ Delivered ✓✓ Read ✓✓
• User ↔ socket mapping for reliable delivery

🔐 Security & Auth
• JWT-based authentication
• Email verification via Nodemailer
• Bcrypt password hashing (10 rounds)
• Protected routes + socket auth

🏗️ Backend Architecture
• Clean MVC structure
• Modular socket handlers
• MongoDB + Mongoose persistence
• Async error handling
• Production-ready project structure

The goal was not just to send messages — but to design a strong real-time foundation that can scale in future phases.

Excited to share progress on my ongoing project NexusChat – a Distributed Real-Time Chat Platform.

Just completed the Authentication & Email Verification system using:

• Node.js & Express
• MongoDB & Mongoose
• JWT Authentication
• Password hashing (bcrypt)
• Nodemailer for email verification
• Production-ready UI/UX

Users can now securely register, verify their email, and log in before accessing the platform.

Next step: WebSockets + real-time messaging + scaling architecture.

Building this project to strengthen my backend, system design, and real-world engineering skills.
