The Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich satellite, which is supposed to observe and map the Earth's oceans, has successfully launched into space. 🚀🛰️
It took off on Saturday morning aboard a launcher from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.
US space agency NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration broadcast the launch live on its website: https://youtu.be/Vm5FnJSIYkw
The satellite, and its twin Sentinel-6B, is jointly developed by ESA - European Space Agency, the EUMETSAT, NASA, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), with funding support from the European Commission and support from France's CNES National Centre for Space Studies. Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich is named in honor of the former director of NASA's Earth Science Division, who was instrumental in advancing space-based ocean measurements.

As a great start of 2020, we received from Norsk Romsenter Følgemidler funding for the REPRO project. The aim of REPRO is to develop a country-wide land cover change prototype, which will be offered to customers in various state departments and agencies. The tool allows savings by applying automated data products and reducing manual work. Følgemidler is the final step in concluding the 3-year development plan for the Silvisense.
The results of this project will also be beneficial for the Project FOCUS which aims to provide customers with earlier detection of forest disease outbreaks.
We have a strong team working on the project, with Tord Kriznik Sørensen as the Technical Lead.
Meet us live!
If you would like to get to know us and learn about SilviSense – an automated forest monitoring service, meet us at the Skogplanseminaret organized by NMBU, which will take place next week (11-12 February 2020) in Hurdal, Norway.
Our Managing Director Kenneth Hauglund and two brilliant engineers Martijn Vermeer and Tord Kriznik Sørensen will be there to answer your questions.
Look forward to speaking with you next week!

Martijn Vermeer has been working for us for over a year, but we haven't had the opportunity to introduce him to you.
Martijn holds a master's degree in Geomatics from the Delft University of Technology. He is a highly skilled geomatics engineer with experience from data mining optical imagery and performing stereo reconstruction of objects within the image scenes. Martijn is involved with SilviSense project related to forest mapping and utilization of novel ICT technologies for more efficient information extraction from large-scale imagery data. Martijn is wonderful to work with, he is motivated and forward-thinking.
