O caso do Confess expõe uma realidade brutal: em alguns lugares, tocar metal ainda pode custar a liberdade.

Enquanto em países democráticos bandas protestam, criticam governos e transformam inconformismo em arte, no Irã a história foi diferente. O Confess virou alvo do regime por usar a música para confrontar repressão, autoritarismo e fundamentalismo religioso.

Formada em Teerã, a banda foi presa em 2015 pela Guarda Revolucionária Islâmica. Os músicos Nikan Khosravi e Arash Ilkhani foram acusados de blasfêmia, propaganda contra o Estado e atividade musical considerada ilegal.

Na época, o caso chegou a envolver a possibilidade de pena de morte. Uma brecha na interpretação da Lei da Sharia impediu a execução, mas não encerrou a perseguição.

Anos depois, veio a sentença definitiva: juntos, receberam 14 anos e meio de prisão. Khosravi também foi condenado a 74 chicotadas.

O que tornava o Confess perigoso para o regime eram as letras. A banda falava abertamente sobre violência institucional, repressão e abuso de poder. Em muitos países, isso alimentaria debate. Ali, virou prova criminal.

A repercussão ultrapassou fronteiras. Alissa White-Gluz, ex-Arch Enemy, e Corey Taylor, do Slipknot, manifestaram apoio e ajudaram a ampliar a visibilidade internacional do caso.

Sem alternativa, Khosravi e Ilkhani fugiram do país. Deixaram para trás família, amigos e a vida que conheciam para cruzar ilegalmente a fronteira e buscar refúgio na Turquia.

Em um relato após a fuga, Khosravi explicou: “Eu decidi deixar o país. Fui proibido de viajar para fora do Irã e meu passaporte foi tirado de mim pelo governo. Não havia outro jeito de emigrar. Cruzei ilegalmente a fronteira para sair do inferno que projetaram para mim.”

Hoje, vivendo na Noruega, o Confess continua fazendo música.

A trajetória da banda é um lembrete duro: em certos lugares, o metal continua sendo mais do que um gênero — ainda é resistência.

The future of Iran must be determined by its own people. Freedom and sovereignty cannot be delivered through foreign military intervention, especially by powers with long records of war, destabilisation, and civilian suffering in the region. These interventions, even when framed as targeted, have repeatedly led to widespread destruction, loss of innocent lives, and long-term instability.

At the same time, we reject the Islamic Republic and its decades of repression, violence, imprisonment, and brutality against us, the Iranian people. Its record is one of systemic oppression, fear, and the denial of basic human rights.

We refuse to accept a false choice between internal tyranny and external aggression. Both have brought suffering to Iranians, and neither represents a path to freedom.

We also reject those who, from abroad, seek power by inviting further violence or aligning with foreign interests while failing to understand the realities and diversity of Iranian society.

No to war.
No to the Islamic Republic.
No to all forces that treat Iranian people as expendable.

We refuse to choose between our oppressors.
آیندهٔ ایران باید به دست مردم خود ایران رقم بخورد. آزادی و حاکمیت ملی را نمی‌توان از دل مداخلهٔ نظامیِ خارجی به دست آورد، به‌ویژه از سوی قدرت‌هایی که کارنامه‌شان سرشار از جنگ، بی‌ثبات‌سازی و رنجِ غیرنظامیان در این منطقه است. این‌گونه مداخلات، حتی آنگاه که «هدفمند» خوانده می‌شوند، بارها به ویرانی گسترده، از دست رفتن جان بی‌گناهان و بی‌ثباتیِ پایدار انجامیده‌اند.

در عین حال، ما جمهوری اسلامی را که دهه‌ها سرکوب، کشتار، خشونت، زندان و ستم بر ما، مردم ایران، روا داشته است، قاطعانه رد می‌کنیم. کارنامهٔ آن سرشار از سرکوبِ سیستماتیک، هراس‌افکنی و سلبِ ابتدایی‌ترین حقوق انسانی است.

ما این دوگانهٔ تحمیلی را نمی‌پذیریم: استبداد درون یا تجاوز از بیرون. هر دو رنج را بر مردم ایران تحمیل کرده‌اند و هیچ‌یک راهی به سوی آزادی نمی‌گشایند.

همچنین آنان را که از خارج، در پی قدرت‌اند و با دعوت به خشونت بیشتر یا هم‌سویی با منافع بیگانه، بی‌آن‌که واقعیت‌ها و گوناگونیِ جامعهٔ ایران را دریابند، مسیر ویرانی را هموار می‌کنند، رد می‌کنیم.
