“I’m not aware of any folk music tradition from Groruddalen. So I thought it deserved a pols,” says Lilja.

“Groruddalen” is a disarmingly honest declaration of love for Lilja’s (and Anders Røine’s) childhood valley—a pols in asymmetrical triple time, featuring jaw harp, langeleik, and distorted guitar.

It holds both pride and ambivalence—feelings many will recognise in relation to the place they grew up.

“You can say a lot about Groruddalen. Some of the myths are probably true, but the fact that it felt just as natural to go to a classmate’s house to watch Bollywood films after school as it did to go skiing to Lilloseter says something about the richness of the valley.”

This multifaceted environment is reflected musically in “Groruddalen,” where elements of folk music, jazz, and rock come together.

It is the first single from the forthcoming album "Muna", an existential record about life from beginning to end.
