Ornaments, reinterpreted.

Our studio continues to work across interior architecture, product design, and production— a combination that has felt entirely natural to us since Aula was founded nearly ten years ago.
Working closely with materials, production methods, and making processes gives us a deeper understanding of how things come into being. Seeing an object take shape through careful steps, and working with our hands, are experiences we carry across disciplines. It makes us better in both fields, keeps us grounded, and helps us stay focused on what matters.
Here, Filipine, our oak trays, taking shape at the studio. Soon available at Norway Designs.

We continue to find inspiration in the landscapes and objects that surround us. Certain themes return again and again in our work, and ornamentation is one of them.
For us, ornament is more than decoration. It speaks to a deeply human impulse: the desire to mark, embellish, and give meaning to the things we live with. To dedicate time and care to something beyond its immediate function. To highlight and create a sense of belonging. Form does not follow function alone.
And then there is the sea and the great oak trees. The Swedish coast, as always, continues to inspire.

We feel incredibly fortunate to be part of this special project in Sandvika, where an old house, shaped across two different eras, is now becoming a new family home.
The house carries a distinct character. Generous in scale, but also in proportion; in its ceiling heights, windows, stairwell, and in the way it gently connects the interior with the surrounding nature.
A new spatial plan and a long-term vision are already in place. First up: kitchen and bathrooms.
We look forward to sharing more as the project unfolds.

A few more glimpses from House of Curiosity.
We can’t get enough of this project!

“Aula interviewed us at the beginning of the process, asking about memories from places in our lives that carried positive feelings and associations. This is truly reflected in the apartment, and has become a gesture that creates a sense of happiness every day.”
Excerpt from the latest issue of Nytt Rom, featuring the project we’ve named The Composed Apt.
Thank you for a wonderful project, Ane and Caspar, and to Pernille Münster for the beautiful photography.

Solea — a reference to the sun, to warmth, to spring and long summer days.
When we designed the textile collection Trama, we started with simple impressions; of city, nature, and the feeling of summer. Not as something literal, but as something we wanted to translate into each design.
Solea carries that warmth.
To bring that feeling into the kitchen, into the everyday, is not insignificant. The objects we live with shape more than we think and can become small reminders of something good🌞

Let us introduce you to the project we’ve named The Row House — simply because that is what it is. A row house overlooking the city of Oslo.
Located at Refstad, the house sits within a cohesive residential development, defined by a clear architectural language and a strong relationship to its surroundings. This existing framework has guided our work and shaped how we approach space, materiality, and the introduction of new layers within the home.
We are drawn to working within clear frameworks, to respond to what already exists while carefully resolving the challenges each client brings.
Demolition is well underway, and we look forward to sharing more of the process as it unfolds this spring~

In the project we’ve named House of Curiosity, shaped by both the history of the house and the owners’ aesthetic preferences, the interiors are now starting to take form. Wallpaper is going up, the kitchen is being installed, and the red thread running through colours and material choices is becoming visible.
This is such a satisfying moment in the design process, seeing all the elements come together. Each part has been chosen on its own terms, yet always in relation to a larger aesthetic direction.

For us, and in anthropological terms, home is never just a place. It is a cultural stage for lived life and a private sphere. A place to withdraw, to soften, to return to oneself. To find calm, and a sense of being held.
No wonder home matters so deeply.
