This is the official page for the Institute for Cancer Genetics and Informatics (ICGI) at Oslo University Hospital. A joint team of researchers, developers and lab-personnel have for more than 20 years been developing methods to improve cancer diagnostics through combining biomedicine and informatics. In recent years, we have focused on new technologies, often referred to as artificial in

⏰ This post is a bit late – but our team certainly wasn’t during Holmenkollstafetten this year! 😄
The Institute for Cancer Genetics and Informatics (with a boost of running power from DoMore Diagnostics💪) joined a whole load of teams from Oslo universitetssykehus, running faster than ever before! Thanks to a wisely chosen t-shirt colour and nearly flawless handovers, we pulled off the near-impossible: no one got lost in a crowd of 75,000 people!
All sections at ICGI were represented, and the atmosphere in the city of Oslo was electric. We almost earned a medal – but a heroic last-minute substitution (a woman stepping in for an ill male runner) meant we couldn’t change our race category, so the tougher time requirement was just out of reach. Still, we finished strong, and the team spirit was unbeatable 💃🏃♂️
Rumour has it several colleagues are already eager to join next year’s team – so selection and training for 2026 starts now! Time to lace up!

Great days here in Rome attending the European Society of Gynaecological Oncology - ESGO and ENITEC meetings. Today Dr. Manohar Pradhan presented our research on Prognostic value of different stages of maturation of tertiary lymphoid structures in molecular subgroups in endometrial carcinoma.

Patients with advanced/recurrent endometrial carcinoma have poor outcomes. Molecular classification can help in prognostication, even for advanced stages.
The current implementation of immunotherapy in addition to chemotherapy is expected to significantly improve outcomes for these patients, particularly those with mismatch repair deficient advanced/recurrent disease.

Prognostic and therapeutic implication of molecular classification including L1CAM expression in high-risk endometrial cancer
This article published in the journal Gynecologic Oncology last Friday, sheds new light on the role of L1CAM, in high-risk endometrial cancer. The article is the result of a collaboration between the Institute of Cancer Genetics and Informatics and the Department of Surgical Oncology, Section for Gynecological Oncology, at Oslo University Hospital, supported by a grant from the Norwegian Cancer Society.
Highlights
• Clearer role of molecular classification and L1CAM in high-risk endometrial cancer.
•ProMisE independently predicted time to recurrence, not cancer-specific survival.
•Patients with POLE mutated tumors had an excellent prognosis.
•L1CAM overexpression was a strong, independent marker for recurrence and survival.
•L1CAM overexpression was related to distant recurrences for the p53 and NSMP group.
Since L1CAM is an additional adverse factor in the p53 abnormal and NSMP groups. These groups need special attention in studies intensifying adjuvant treatment.
