At Resthon AS, we are proud to continue our partnership with the Norwegian Irish Society (NIS) for the second year in a row. Through our venue, O’Connor’s Irish Pub Oslo, we’ve had the pleasure of supporting their cultural work and serving as a gathering place during the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.
NIS is a volunteer‑driven, passionate organisation dedicated to building and sustaining the Irish community in and around Oslo. Under their umbrella, you’ll find initiatives ranging from St. Patrick’s Day and Halloween events to an Irish choir. They also collaborate closely with The Sound Irish Dance Factory, which teaches and showcases Irish dance, and Féile Oslo, which for many years has promoted Irish music and dance in Norway.
This year, the main St. Patrick’s Day celebration takes place on Saturday, 14th March, and we are delighted that the Grand Marshall for 2026 is Dr. Caitlin Ellis, a professor at the University of Oslo specialising in medieval Irish and Scandinavian history. She will be joining NIS throughout the day as part of the festivities.
The celebration begins with the traditional parade from Oslo Central Station to Universitetsplassen — complete with a bagpipe band, Irish wolfhounds, music, dancing, and a sea of green‑clad participants. At Universitetsplassen, the programme continues with a speech from the Irish Ambassador to Norway, performances from the choir and dancers, and a traditional céilí where everyone is invited to join in.
We at Resthon are delighted that O’Connor’s has become a warm and welcoming gathering point for NIS before, during, and after St. Patrick’s weekend. The committee’s kind feedback about our atmosphere, staff, and how O’Connor’s “has captured the essence of a true Irish pub” means a great deal to us.
Events like these require time, passion, and financial support. We are proud to contribute as a partner. Without backing from local businesses like ours — as well as support from Irish businesses in Oslo, Tourism Ireland, and the Irish government — much of this cultural work would not be possible.
With St. Patrick’s Day fast approaching, we encourage everyone to take part in the NIS events, join the parade, enjoy the performances, and help support the vibrant Irish community here in Norway. (More information about this year’s programme can be found on the flyers/images attached to this post.
And of course — drop by O’Connor’s during St. Patrick’s weekend!
We look forward to welcoming you with a great atmosphere, friendly staff, and a truly authentic Irish pub experience. 🍀

✨ The final – and perhaps finest – chapter of the year ✨
Last weekend, we had the pleasure of opening our very last venue of 2025: Nystua Skeikampen 🏔️
On Friday, December 19th, we welcomed invited guests for a soft opening with dinner and a first look at the venue, before opening our doors to the public on Saturday, December 20th. What an incredible weekend it turned out to be! A huge thank you to everyone who came, celebrated with us, and showed such amazing support — it truly means the world to us.
2025 has been a year we are incredibly proud of. Ending it with the opening of Nystua really feels like the cherry on top of the cake. 🍰
This also marks something new for us. We’ve stepped outside our usual comfort zone of pubs and bars and completed our very first “stua” renovation. Could this be the beginning of something even bigger? Who knows — but it’s certainly exciting.
As we look ahead to 2026, we do so with great gratitude, ambitions for continued growth, and pride in being an integral part of the Thon Group.
Thank you for a fantastic year — we’re excited for what’s to come. ✨
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! 🎄🥂
Takk for dette året til alle ansatte, samarbeidspartnere, alle som har besøkt oss, og alle som har støttet oss 😊 God jul og godt nyttår fra alle oss i Resthon 🎉

Sir Winston’s Public House was the very first pub opened by the Thon Group, all the way back in 1969 🤩 Since Sir Winston opened in ’69, a lot has changed — and now even more changes are coming: We’re renovating! 🛠️
We’re getting new floors, new restrooms, a new bar, a new façade, and new furniture. We’ll close on the 22nd of December and reopen at the end of January. We’ll share the exact opening date soon, but what we can say is that we’ll be back in the new year with a refreshed look — while still keeping the same charming pub atmosphere we all love ❤️.
When we reopen, we’ll become a fully dedicated English pub, without piano entertainment on weekends. The current piano area will be transformed into new seating.
In the photos, you can see Sir Winston on opening day in 1969, how it looks today, and a mood board showing how it will look in 2026.
We can’t wait to show it off — and you’re more than welcome to stop by both before and after the makeover 🎉
PS: We also have a 104-year-old in our pub collection! Den Gamle Major dates back to 1921, and was taken over by Olav Thon in 1984.
