Just needed a reminder…
”The Wedding“ or ”Bogadi“

Which, in Botswana (my home), is the «bride price». A property in livestock or kind, which a prospective husband, or head of his family, undertakes to give to the head of a prospective wife’s family in gratitude of letting the husband marry their daughter and for the bride’s family for raising her.

This painting being part of a series, celebrating the rich and diverse culture of Botswana.

Whenever we begin a story, we must take into account all that has come before. Everything that had to happen to build the framework of the tale we are about to tell.
A history. A backstory. Unknown or known, without it, this particular story could not be told.

We do not know what the event was. Or when. Or why leaves us with this vaguely unsettling feeling.
We begin with what remains.

The fog has set in. There was a party. Something has happened.

And now, we read on.
