✨ Two books, two Wood Pencils ✏️✏️
We are incredibly happy (and still a little surprised) to share that La Liberté ou L’Amour and Open the Book have each received a Wood Pencil at the D&AD Awards 2026 in Book Design.
A lovely moment to celebrate the artists, and , and our in-house designers, and who brought these books to life.

The Future Library requires people to broaden their vision and slow down their pace. It is not merely an artistic project, but also a critique of modern society’s perception of time.

South Korean visual artist Naeun Kang returns to Bergen after three years with a solo exhibition at Northing Space.
The exhibition presents a new body of oil paintings, graphite drawings, and watercolours. The works continue the artist’s longstanding exploration of what is awkward, broken, messy, vulnerable, absurd, or hidden, and the ambivalence these states hold. The works move between reflections on psychology and interpersonal relationships, and the artist‘s transient or recurring fixations and daydreams.
About the artist
Naeun Kang (b. 1994) is a South Korean artist based in Oslo. She works with paintings, drawings and sculptures. Kang holds an MFA (2023) from the National Academy of the Arts in Oslo, Norway, and a BFA (2018) from the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, Netherlands.
Kang’s previous solo exhibitions include Centralbanken (Oslo, 2024), and NEVVEN (Bologna, 2024, and Gothenburg, 2025). Kang‘s works have been included in group exhibitions at the Norske Billedhoggerforening (Oslo, 2025), Galleri LNM (Oslo, 2024), Kunstnerneshus (Oslo, 2023), and the Intercultural Museum (Oslo, 2021). She is the recipient of the 2026 one-year working grant for young artists, the 2026 Oslo Kommune Establishing Stipend, and the 2023 FKDS Atelier Stipend at the Kunstnernes Hus. Her work is held in the public collection of Västra Götaland (SE) and Kunst på Arbeidsplassen (NO).
This exhibition is kindly supported by Arts Council Norway.

The buzzing exhibition Chaotic Kitchen from Taiwan, with its clammy southern island passion, is drawing to a close in the chilly Nordic spring weather this week. Thanks to Taipei Art Book Fair, who expanded the capacity of our limited space with 27 artists showcasing the diverse and buoyant art scene in Taiwan. Thanks to everyone who came and experienced the extraordinary journey together with us. If you haven’t done so, this Wednesday and Friday are the last chances. 🙋🏻♀️

In the last two years, our tiny art bookshop Elephanten has attracted a great deal of attention. Many have praised it as a hidden gem in Bergen. Unfortunately, the landlord has decided to reclaim this part of the space in order to build an emergency staircase for the new restaurant upstairs. In light of this major change, we will temporarily close our beloved bookshop from 15 May.
We are actively working on new solutions and hope to reopen Elephanten in the near future.
For now, we would simply like to thank all our friends and visitors who supported us — whether by purchasing books or by stopping by to share lovely moments with us.
Farewell for now, and see you again soon.

29 April, the final stop of the Future Library tour in Shanghai was Fosun Art Center on the Bund. The rain did not relent and the temperature remained low, yet it did little to deter an enthusiastic audience from gathering for Anne Beate’s thought-provoking presentation on the top floor of the centre’s iconic building, designed by Norman Foster and Thomas Heatherwick.
Following the presentation, Vice Consul Tom Jørgen opened the reception with a heartfelt speech, celebrating the successful tour of the Future Library project in China.
