Uphill running is one of the biggest things holding trail runners back and it’s one of the most coachable.
During our September retreat (17–20th), I’m dedicating whole session to hill running: technique, efficiency, confidence on the climbs so your trail runs feel more efficient.

The acceptance that it was going to be hard allows flexibility
“It’s getting hard now” Harriet said
I replied “you knew that though”
Harriet replied “Yes I knew” and she carried on running.
As she said that she also smiled it may of even been a subtle laugh.
A smile and laughter through discomfort and suffering dampens the emotional energy that can come when it’s hard.
It changes the connection from ‘oh my god I can’t do this’ to ‘I can find it hard and still enjoy it.’
This is a long researched technique from sports psychology and traumatic therapy practices It interrupts and rewrites the connection between pressure, suffering, discomfort and the threat you must avoid.
I asked what kept you going Harriet replied “to see what I am capable of”
That’s the point. A person that can work with what’s hard. That knows discomfort and enjoyment coexists.
The gap between knowing and doing is something we all face.
Eating well
Exercising
Saving money
Sleeping better
Hydrating
Getting outside
Everything we know and and still aren’t doing
We all have an avoidance issue and that’s normal we are designed over thousands of years to stay comfortable as much as possible
If you are stuck in the gap of knowing and not doing let’s have a chat
Not where you used to be
Not where you feel like you should be
Not where someone else is
Are all part of the reason you have stopped or not even started

On Saturday I finished the 3rd year of running the Apex of Wales programme.
dug deep and through beautiful suffering many mental negotiations was successful!
I run this within limitless project and it consists of 4 months coaching all in to prepare you for the final consolidation which I lead you over.
One day, 15 mountains, 47km, 3700m Elevation
(The Welsh 3000s)
So far it’s changed the lives of 6 people.
For me I just love the feeling of saying hours, mountains and steps later
“That’s 15 you have completed the Welsh 3000s”
Followed by a fist bump.
This is a group programme yet the last 2 years only 1 person has committed.
I’m undecided if I will run this again despite many people talking to me and saying I want to do that.
It often ends there. Do what you say you will.

Then allow some autonomy and space to fail and be vulnerable without fear
Every part of Limitless Project exists for one person.
The one who’s sick of saying later and can’t seem to stop.
That’s what happens when you have avoided for long enough.
The gap between who you are and who you intended to become doesn’t get bigger because the path got harder.
It’s stopped moving towards that person.
Sometimes that voice pushing you forward is a deep honest desire for more.
Sometimes it’s just noise to fit into the conversation without the intention to ever act.
LP works with both. Because the starting point doesn’t matter as much as starting.
Tomorrow is year three of The Apex of Wales.
It ends when we finish the Welsh 3000s. Not when it feels comfortable. Not when the conditions are right. When we finish.
That’s the only currency that matters here is the time you are wasting and pushing down your own desires.
You already know what you want. Let’s go get it.
