Unique wines from Italy & Netherlands

Now in our shop. Autumn wine, juicy and young, budget friendly, made in Lombardy from Sangiovese, Merlot & Marzemino grapes.

We are all very familiar with Sangiovese & Merlot, but what about Marzemino?
Have you ever hear of this grape variety? Or tried a wine made from it?

Marzemino is found throughout northern Italy most notably in the Lombardy, Veneto, Trentino and Friuli-Venezia Giulia. In Lombardy is usually used in blends, often with Barbera, Merlot, Sangiovese.

The vine requires a long growing season & ripens late. Marzemino can produce light wines with lovely acidity. Wine produced from this grape is dark coloured and has a light plummy taste.

Fun fact: Marzemino wine was mentioned in Mozart’s opera Don Giovanni. The main character Don Giovanni calls out for a glass of Marzemino just before his deliverance into hell.

🍷“ Versa il vino! Eccellente Marzemino!” - Pour the wine! The excellent Marzemino!

For sparking wines lovers 🥂 : did you know that there a few methods of production for sparkling wines?

🍾 Traditional method ( méthode traditionnelle or champenois method) - method where the wine has a second fermentation in the bottle. All champagnes, cremants & cavas of this world are produced with this method.
🍾 Transfer method - looks like a traditional method but without costly and complex process of riddling & disgorgement.
🍾 Tank method - this method is ideal for making sparkling wines from the grapes with strong flavours such as Riesling or Muscat. And also for making fruity styled sparking, like Italian Prosecco. It is cheaper, faster & less labour intensive than a traditional method
🍾 Asti method - it used for the production of sweet sparking wines in the Asti region of Piemonte. It produces sweet fruity wines but there is only one alcoholic fermentation involved.
🍾 Carbonation - in this method CO2 is injected into a still wine, which is then bottled under pressure. It’s the cheapest of all the methods. ( source WSET3 book)

Sparking wines from the Dutch producer in Limburg are all made according to the traditional method. Long long process brings us sparkling wines of amazing quality & flavour!

Have you already tried Dutch bubbles?
We still have a stock in our shop of their four different but equally delicious wines. Definitely worth to try.

Do you know that it’s Pancake Day today? It’s the traditional feast day before the start of lent. Lent is the 40 days of fasting before Easter.

Pancake day was the last opportunity to use eggs & fats before starting with the Lenten fast & pancakes are perfect for this celebration. Each ingredient in a pancake has its own symbol: eggs- creation, flour-the staff of life, salt - wholesomeness, milk - purity.

Although not many people are fasting for 40 days now, this day is a good occasion to bake delicious thin pancakes and enjoy them. For an extra pleasure add red caviar & a glass of bubbles!

We have a few nice ones which will go perfectly with an airy thin pancake, covered with caviar or smoked salmon!

Many people ask me why the wines in our shop are quite pricy?
What is the difference between our wines & a wine from a supermarket?
I’ve decided to explain some factors and reasons that affect the price of wine.

First of all establishing a vineyard is a very expensive step. The cost of land, especially in a location where the highest quality wines are produced. Preparing the soil, buying & planting vines. It takes years to see the result of these investments.

* labour- is the largest production cost. You can save on labour when combine manual grape picking with a machinery. But in some vineyards with extremely steep slopes machinery is not possible, production costs are higher
* Production quantity
* Winemaking techniques
* Equipment & maintenance of the winery
* Aging materials ( oak barrels)
* Storage facilities
* Packaging ( bottles, corks, labels)
* Transport, distribution & sales
* Taxes
* Marketing costs

Taking into consideration all these factors the prices for all wines in our shop are completely justified. And be sure if you pay a certain price for a bottle in our shop, you pay for something that actually impacts the flavour of the wine.
