And since we are on the topic of DIY! We have been enjoying the past years so much to have a whole new group of makers and synth developers joining the DIY programme at the festival.

Without these makers taking the electric leap and making their modules available to build by others, we would be stuck with only buying modules and trading. But besides that diy is enabling ourselves to build and make our own modules and standalone synths or noise machines! 💪

Soldering and self assembly, are skills that seem daunting at first, but surprise beginners often how easy this is to learn without needing prior technical oe electronic expertise!

We share some snippets from the last years shot by from the diy makers and teachers in action, who help support and influence a new generation of synth builders and boost the DIY vibrations at DMF.

We’ve got two unmissable talks lined up for this year’s edition.

1. Honouring a Legacy – A Talk by Biyi Amez
Synth maker and sound explorer Biyi Amez joins us at Dutch Modular Fest 2025 with a special tribute to the late Rob Hordijk.
Expect a personal talk about legacy, instrument design, the story behind the Blippulator (aka Blippoo Box MKII), and a rare opportunity to buy one – only at the fest, and cash only.
This talk takes place on the date of Rob’s passing, making it all the more meaningful.

2. Voltmeister Masterclass – The History of Electronic Sound
Sound archaeologist and voltage wizard Rikkert ‘Voltmeister’ will take the stage with a talk tracing the history of electronic sound.
From the early bleeps to today’s modular madness — this is the masterclass for anyone who wants to know where the wires came from.
Expect surprises, audio oddities, and plenty of knowledge.
