Exhibition statement

On September 13, NL=US Gallery opens its new season with ‘The skyline is like skin’, a duo exhibition featuring the work of Alexandra Roozen and Esther Jiskoot. In this show, the artists explore the liminal space between body and mind, light and darkness, distance and intimacy. Through meticulous, manual processes, both artists tap into rhythm, attention, and stillness—pathways to a more spiritual or intuitive layer of meaning.

Alexandra Roozen works with pencil on paper, and in her recent works she focuses on the drawn surface as a kind of skin – sometimes soft and luminous, sometimes rough and light-absorbing. Esther Jiskoot creates tactile, intimate sculptures that hover between the human body, abstraction, and functional objects. Her work references survival strategies, energy, and vulnerability, offering a visceral, instinctive experience that resonates beyond language.

On September 13, NL=US Gallery opens its new season with ‘The skyline is like skin’, a duo exhibition featuring the work of Alexandra Roozen and Esther Jiskoot. Exhibition Statement

The world is vast, layered and endlessly complex—a living, breathing organism of experiences, identities and connections. In this space, we all live life in our own unique way. Everyone is different. We cross paths—sometimes with meaning, sometimes without even realizing—and continue on our separate journeys.

We move from A to B, physically and emotionally. In the blur of motion, life doesn’t pause. The traffic flows, people rush past and the digital world pulses with constant noise. Social media buzzes with curated lives and invisible pressures. We scroll, we post, we compare, often without noticing how deeply it shapes us.

Yet within this chaos, there’s a quieter story unfolding: the journey of personal growth. The struggle through difficulties. The attempt to carve out a path that is truly your own. To make sense of everything spinning around you.

This exhibition invites you to slow down—to reflect on the world’s complexity, your place within it and the silent strength of finding your own way in a world that never stops moving.
