Reflecting on our New Delft Blue project brings us back to a meaningful foundation for our studio. This bespoke project served as an inviting starting point for introducing a new architectural language, proving how algorithmic design and tactile ceramics can transform the way people experience the built environment.
The concept reimagines the familiar, idyllic scenes and decorative frames of 17th-century Delftware plates, translating them into a dynamic, engaging space. To achieve this, we thoughtfully authored a computational script to shape approximately 3,000 unique 3D-printed ceramic tiles. These elements form two monumental entry gates that embrace the public courtyard, offering a warm and welcoming entrance for the local residents. By integrating advanced computation with ceramics, we showed that it is possible to bring human scale, texture, and a true sense of belonging back into the public realm.
Today, we are building directly upon this foundation to design even larger architectural spaces. Our studio is currently scaling this vision of algorithmic masonry, pushing our digital craftsmanship into monumental retail and hospitality environments worldwide. New Delft Blue remains a cherished milestone of where our trajectory began, and a daily reminder of how we can shape a textured, inviting new chapter in architecture.

New design concepts, developed in weeks! ๐๏ธ
We use short design and production cycles to explore new architectural ideas. By combining form studies, glaze testing, and physical mockups in house, we can quickly evaluate geometry, surface, and material behavior at an architectural scale.
This mockup is inspired by the desert. Layering, erosion, and light inform both the shape and the ceramic surface.
In a next post we will show how this form is generated digitally and how it can be applied in architectural projects.
Curious to hear where you would see this used!
