LivingRoom
An intimate non-gallery platform for contemporary art & residency for starting artists / creatives
23/01/2023
đ Join us on Saturday the 4th of February from 19.30 to 22.00 for a listening and writing session hosted by the Reading Rhythms Club .
The Reading Rhythms Club is a nomadic reading group that experiments with different forms of reading together and hosts every session in a different location that sets the scene. Through the current series Learning With the Living, their events explore otherwise ways of relating to the living world surrounding us and understanding the ideological premises that facilitate ecological devastation.
During this session we will be listening to a piece of audio fiction called Bedtime Story by Welcome to Nightvale, which imaginatively explores non-human knowledges. Inspired by the story, we will be creating our own short pieces of fiction, poetry, or drawing that will result in a collaborative zine. There will be time for sharing our creations and other pieces of short fiction in line with the topic. Rsvp if you want to join!
Hope to see you there!đ

Welcome to the the show of our first artist of our residency "INTUITON" 2022/2023 program - Berendine Venemans.
--------------------
Doors open 14:30
Performance 15:00
After Performance: Video work & drinks
For residency Berendine continues her artistic research of developing the ability to meet intuition on its own terms while learning to integrate it into daily life. The artist asks the questions: What triggers intuitive curiosity? And how can we respond to the intuitive sparks?
To approach these questions during the residency in Platform LivingRoom, Berendine is adopting a mindful awareness to unify cognitive thinking and bodily sensorial input. This awareness is applied in her performative work from which the audience will be invited to explore the "curiousity and resonance".
*About the artist*
Berendine talks about the role and value of âintuitionâ when it comes to the personal journey of reconnecting with oneself. Her work comes from her own experiences about this path. She researches âintuitionâ that can be seen as an autonomous complex, and then how to encounter it in its own name. Her artistic method is to create through the language of âintuitionâ: pre-verbal, emotive, sensorial and associative, which circumvent the cognition. Her aim is to transform her embodied knowledge into works that affectively touch the other.

Congratulations to Berendine Vanemans , Noa Zuidervaart and artist duo Defne Tesal & Murat Yildiz ! Their proposals are selected for our one-week artist in residency program âintuitionâ in LivingRoom.
We were fortunate to receive 62 applications and many of the proposals were so strong and appealing that we really had a difficult time to make the decision. Hereby we would like to finally have the winners with their projects in our house for the year of 2022-2023, and each of the selected artists will have an one-day exhibition at the end of their residency. We as the hosts and the tenants in LivingRoom are so much looking forward to working and living together with the artists in the upcoming months! Cheers đť

Upcoming Sat 25th June, we are hosting the event 'SCENE THE SEEN'
One of the artists is Alexandra Verschuuren
Alexandra is a performance artist and movement teacher based in Rotterdam.
Her artistic work is focused around questioning the fine line between public and private spaces by exploring confrontation and vulnerability within human interactions.
*
About the research on performance (hide to be seen):
What happens when you notice you are being watched? Alexandraâs research stems from the disconnection she experienced as a performer within her dance education, on stage and within daily life. A constant underlying pressure of being watched by peers, teachers, and audiences, and expecting herself to perform without failure is where the disconnection surfaced.
*
Her project (hide to be seen), researches the vulnerabilities of watching and being watched by someone. A play between the observer and the observed is created where the clarity of the roles
blur, diving into an unknown territory.
Join Alexandra in a guided performance experiment, and share and reflect on the performance, research, and experiences.

SCENE THE SEEN
â˘25th Juneâ˘
Save a date đ
****
On June 25th, the Platform LivingRoom will host 2 contemporary dance performances by 3 Rotterdam based artists, Alexandra Verschuuren and the Interrelation project by Guillem GĂłngora Moral & Janosch Horn. Their research revolves around the complexity and subtlety of the relation between human to human & human to physical conditions in everyday life and in theatre. Their research questions our perception of body movements that can be shaped and situated by observing and being observed. We create the scene in the living room space to let the unseen to be seen through these two performances.
