‘Complexe regels lokken fraude met biodiesel uit’ - illustratie voor

Behalve mensen teken ik ook graag dieren 🐛 heel fijn om al die kleine details van haartjes en vlekjes uit te werken. Swipe naar rechts om daar meer van te zien!
Deze illustratie was voor
over de noodzaak van duurzaam investeren door pensioenfondsen.

Ik speel graag met perspectief in mijn illustraties, om de beleving vanuit iemand te benadrukken. Zoals bij deze illustratie voor , over de gevolgen van coronamaatregelen destijds voor o.a blinde personen, die door 1,5m-afzettingen hun weg niet meer konden vinden. 🚧

Hoi allemaal, blij m’n werk hier te mogen laten zien! Ik begin met een illustratie die ik voor de heb gemaakt, bij een essay van Arnon Grunberg over oorlog, ‘Geweld is altijd dichtbij’. Bij het verschijnen van dit artikel was de oorlog in Oekraïne overigens nog niet begonnen, daarom keek ik hier juist vandaag weer met andere ogen naar.

This is the end of my takeover already! As the big finale my most recent photo series, Arawak Teatro . In this series I captured the vivacity of a group of five young actors living and working in Curaçao. Dressed in exuberant costumes, these talented young people intervene in the tourist areas of the island playing out magical and mystifying characters in the streets.
 
This project was felt like bringing a dream to life, challenging the sometimes harsh realities of the island that has its share of poverty – which has only increased during the pandemic. Over the course of a few weeks I feel like I made friends for life and we have come to share a future vision.

Another great collaboration was this photo series commissioned by . Named ‘Alphabet Soup’ this was a weekly interview series which featured the story of an inspiring lgbtqia+ individual.

Can, 2021
 
In this project that I shot last year, we meet Can during a clandestine photoshoot in his mother’s living room in Rotterdam-West, propped up against the cherished luxury display cabinet. The beige backdrop of modesty against which Can grew up used to be an environment where there was no space for his colourful and flamboyant personality, nor his sexual orientation.

During the 2020 lockdown, I hosted multiple studio sessions with the new generation of club kids, a group of expressive characters and queens of the night. I was very much inspired by this vibrant generation of youngsters from Rotterdam. I captured each personality in strong and richly expressive portraits. I removed the context of the club kids’ exterior environment and focused solely on the person in front of the camera. Zooming in on their unique beauty, the images are imbued with the heart of the underground and the spirit of the night.

Another golden oldie, the impersonators series that was commissioned by . This was so much fun to make and it is one of my personal favorites that I made for the magazine. Surreal scenes seeing Memory Monroe, KISSterious and Merante as Lady Gaga in typical daily surroundings.

Harmen Meinsma, The Family Jewels, 2018

This series from 2018 is featuring the queens of the legendary House of Holographic Hoes. The highly stylized images show the house in all of its glory melting together in an underground chamber. Dripping in neon, diamonds, and gold, this formation of q***r performers is shining effortlessly like modern-day statues.
