In finite element analysis, one of the most common misconceptions is treating maximum stress values as the absolute truth.

Local stress peaks can result from mesh effects, idealized boundary conditions, or geometric discontinuities and may not always represent actual structural behavior.

Instead of reacting to the highest stress value, engineers should ask:
