We are pleased to announce version 4.2 of our Alpha/VAX virtualization products. This new version includes functional updates, many of which have been requested by our customers, as well as support for the latest hardware and software security standards.

This version includes an important performance improvement for disk and tape I/O in vtAlpha. Physical Disks and Tapes will benefit more from it than their virtual equivalents, but this performance upgrade makes it relevant to consider upgrading to this latest version.

For a detailed overview we refer to the V4.2.1 release notes and the Reference Manual for this version, available upon request.

Here is a summary of the most important changes:

New vtServer kernel, implementing the latest Software Security Standards.
Implementation of HTTPD security headers.
SMB/Samba passwords longer than 80 characters now supported.
Certificate Signing Request functionality.
Support for exporting Certificates.
Warning when attempting to connect to a console port that is already in use at an active emulator.
vtAlpha start halts upon using a non existing network interface.
vtAlpha I/O performance improvement.
vtVAX Tape compression capability added.
