One of our student's managed to make a translation of Wim Crouwel's famous 'Vormgevers' poster.

Wim Crouwel’s ‘Vormgevers’ poster announces a design exhibition
by exhibiting the poster’s own design rules. It reveals the
grid used to design the poster, while the type is generated from
this same grid, with some manipulations to enhance legibility.
My poster translates the same approach to a new platform, the
screen. I show the pixel grid that underlies everything shown on
a screen, and how letters adapt to it by slight shifts in color to
make text as comfortable to read as possible.

The assignment of the 2nd-year Master students Graphic Design was to ‘translate’ Rodchenko’s style, composition and activist message into the visual language of our times. Although in any translation a certain level of interpretation is unavoidable – or even desirable – we asked students to stay close to the original, both in terms of composition and content. What do you think?

Our exhibition is still hitting the spotlights at the glass gallery of MOTI. One of the pieces is the translation of Gert Dumbar's Mondriaan done by one of our master students.

'Gert Dumbar’s “Mondriaan” poster translates the popular idea
that Mondriaan’s art is a simple constructive game into an
official exhibition announcement. Such self-irony is amazing for
an illustrious institution like the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag.
In my translation I follow the same ironic approach towards
Dutch DJ Martin Garrax, who is often seen as a rather simplistic
constructor of beats.'
