Echolalia is a natural part of autistic communication. It means "echo speech," and it can be either immediate or delayed. For many autistic people with limited speech, delayed echolalia is a primary way to communicate.
This Autism Acceptance Month, listen to the voices around you, including those using AAC, and find joy in the echoes. Echoing with AAC is just as much echolalia as echoing with speech.
