Meet Rambo, Flexa, Dulux and Dickens!

At Captcha, we don’t go as far as baptising our computers (water and electronics …) but we do give them names. 

Is our iMac Rambo named after the films? you might wonder. No, Rambo is the youngest machine at Captcha in a lineage of grading machines named after paint brands. It all started when a very powerful linux machine became Captcha’s primary grading workstation. In Barry’s suite, he had a neon sign that was gifted to him by director Ismael. The sign read: “Flexa, pick your colour here”. When it came to naming the new workstation, the name Flexa stuck.

When we opened our extra suite in Rotterdam, the machine there got the name Dulux: also the name of a paint brand!

For synchronising our media between Amsterdam and Rotterdam we also set up a dedicated partition on our server. To avoid confusion, we could not call it Amsterdam or Rotterdam so we named it Dickens.

Meet one of our colourists: Qianwei! 

Qianwei () is our queen of long form projects. She keeps on pumping them out from Captcha’s Rotterdam suite. A warm, strong and colourful look-and-feel has become the hallmark of Qianwei’s style. It is no coincidence that three of the documentaries she worked on this year are being screened at IDFA.

Tonight, Zwijgrecht will have its Amsterdam premiere. The film is about the dangers of drug crime and its impact on vulnerable teenagers and young adults. Young people developed this film and discovered their talents in the field of production, acting and music. Some of them were able to use their personal experience with (drug) crime.

This project is a collaboration between Masterplan Zuidoost and the municipality of Rotterdam.  We were honored to be involved with this special project and contributed by delivering colour grading and VFX.

Great news! Droomland has been selected by the Dutch Film Festival () and will be shown on the big screen on September 21 📽️🎞️
Our colourist Harm loved to work on this short film: “Stern shot wonderful images for me to work with. He and Bart had a clear vision. They dared to go dark and soft. A painterly feel befitting the location.“

Meet one of our colourists: Harm! ()
Harm is broadly experienced in the field of film. He graduated as a director at the Dutch Film Academy and joined Captcha in the summer of 2020 as a junior colourist. Since then, he has also taken on other tasks within the company, such as the occasional edit, streamlining Captcha’s workflow and managing our wiki-bible.
