Thank you Yogi Hale Hendlin for your very interesting lecture on Ecological Xenophobia and the Political Semiotics of Host(ile) Species at the Host(ile) Lands finissage yesterday. You left us with food for thoughts, while sitting in the same soup. 🌳🌶️🥑

Thank you Janneke van der Loop- for shining your ecology advising eye on invasive species and how to deal with them at the finissage of Host(ile) Lands. We loved your spicy speech!

How fast time flies! Join us this Sunday the 14th to say goodbye to Host(ile) Lands.
Together with you, artists and invited speakers we will reflect on the practices, policies, cultural and political implications of invasiveness, exoticism and migration of people, animals and plants. The debate will be followed by a bite from our artists.

This Friday!
Join us for the Perennial Reading Group, hosted by Anne Diestelkamp (14.30-16.30)
“Beyond the War on Invasive Species” by Tao Orion is a critical exploration of how we relate to so-called “invasive” species and the ecosystems we shape.
Together, we will read and reflect on Orion’s call to move beyond the eradication of invasive species toward more holistic, permaculture-based approaches to ecological coexistence.

Afterwards, join us for the Invasive Species Walk through the Amstelpark to observe and discuss invasive species with ecologist Arend Wakker (16.30-18)

It's blooming, it's flourishing, it's wild! Gardens!
Join us coming Sunday for two events: EXTREME SALAD WORLD + 2nd GARDENER’S ASSEMBLY
Sunday 31 May, 11:00–17:30
📍 Amstelpark, Amsterdam

Join us for a day of workshops, food and gardening exchange with Genomic Gastronomy and the Zone2Source gardening community.

The day starts with the launch of EXTREME SALAD WORLD: a biodiversity-packed edible garden inspired by radical cultivation, perennial plants and vegetal abundance. During the Soil & Taste Test workshop, we will harvest, taste and map edible biodiversity together — followed by a communal FOODSHED SOIL PICNIC.

In the afternoon, the 2nd Gardener’s Assembly brings together artists, community gardeners and activist gardeners to exchange stories, tools, seeds, soil and experiences.
🌿 Bring a small soil sample and an object from your garden if you’d like to participate in the assembly.

Free participation — registration required though. There are still some spots left for both events.

It is sadly time to say goodbye to our beloved creatures from the Chorusing Symbionts.
In case you haven’t met them yet, this weekend is your last chance to do so!
Come meet the artist Matteo Marangoni this Saturday from 15 to 17 in the Glazenhuis to learn more about the behind-the-scenes of this project, interspecies music and ecoacoustics.

Very exciting news! The creatures of Chorusing Symbionts created by Matteo Marangoni will soon visit Amstelpark and hang out in the trees around Glazen Huis.

Chorusing Symbionts is a project exploring interspecies music as a bridge between humans, animals and robots. It is inspired by current research in artificial intelligence and bioacoustics, specifically machine learning applied to animal communication.

Join us for the double opening of Chorusing Symbionts and Host(ile) Lands at Glazen Huis on Sunday the 19th from 15:00-17:00, and make sure to pay attention to your surroundings!

And on the 10th of May, you’re welcome to join the workshop “Music, robots and wild animals in the park”, where Matteo Marangoni will present the context and research behind the Chorusing Symbionts, linking music, artificial intelligence and ecoacoustics. Tickets via link in bio!

Régine Debatty interviewed Alice Smits and wrote a beautiful article about Zone2Source at WeMakeMoneyNotArt. You can read the full article in the link in bio, but here's a pic of the lead: "Few art spaces critically and rigorously examine the climate crisis, extractivism and social injustice without leaving you emotionally drained for weeks. Only one comes to mind at the moment: Zone2Source, a “testing ground for art & ecology” located right in the middle of Amstelpark, a 30 minute ride from Amsterdam Central by public transport."
