Osusu, within Eziama, started as a small settlement centuries ago. Early settlers migrated from different parts of southeastern Nigeria, drawn by fertile land and the area’s position near trade routes.

Over time it grew into a hub for small-scale commerce and agriculture. Like most Ngwa communities, it was affected by colonization and the Nigerian Civil War, but retained its cultural identity. Oral traditions say the community formed as clans and families put down roots in the area.

Eziama Osusu falls within the broader *Ngwa people* history. The Ngwa trace their migration to Umunoha in Owerri, then moved south to the Imo River area around the 14th-16th century. Okpuala Ngwa, the LGA headquarters just nearby, is regarded as the first Ngwa settlement.
