Stakeholders across Ikono and Ini LGAs reaffirmed their support for the party and its candidate, expressing confidence in the APC’s chances at the polls. GOV ENO WRITES A NEW CHAPTER IN AVIATION HISTORY

By Ekemini James

Today, May 2, 2026, Akwa Ibom State crosses into the global aviation space as Governor Umo Eno launches international flight operations from the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo.

The historic transition officially repositions the state on the map of international connectivity, as the state-owned carrier, Ibom Air, begins its maiden international service from Uyo to Kotoka International Airport, Accra, Ghana.

This milestone is the culmination of years of deliberate planning, investment, and institutional continuity that has seen successive administrations contribute to the evolution of aviation infrastructure in the state, now fully realised with the operational readiness of the international terminal.

The newly completed smart terminal building, which will host the international operations, is designed as a state-of-the-art facility capable of processing up to five million passengers annually, with operational efficiency structured to ensure that passengers spend minimal time between entry and boarding.

Built with a strong emphasis on technology and user experience, the terminal integrates modern installations that enable seamless passenger movement, eliminate congestion, and significantly reduce turnaround time for both travellers and airline operators.

The facility is equipped with four escalators and thirteen elevators, configured to allow flexible directional movement in response to traffic demands, thereby enhancing operational flow within the terminal.

In addition, the building is fully enclosed and insulated against noise, thermal variation, and environmental disturbances, ensuring that passengers experience a calm and controlled atmosphere, even during peak aircraft activity.

Power supply to the terminal is driven by a synchronized system of seven generators, designed to automatically regulate energy distribution based on demand, guaranteeing uninterrupted operations while optimising efficiency across the facility.

The terminal’s structural design is largely sealed, with minimal external openings, a feature that improves the efficiency of the air-conditioning system and reinforces confidence in the reliability of its power infrastructure.

Complementing this is a high-speed internet system that supports real-time communication, operational coordination, and timely processing of passenger and flight information within the airport environment.

On the airside, the terminal is fitted with five air bridges, strategically designated to serve both domestic and international flights, with a swing bridge that can be deployed flexibly depending on traffic volume, thereby maximising operational efficiency.

The facility also introduces a rare transit capability within Nigeria’s aviation space, allowing passengers to seamlessly connect between international and domestic flights, as well as between multiple international routes, without cumbersome procedures.

This integrated system positions the airport as a functional hub for passenger movement, expanding its role beyond a departure and arrival point to a centre of connectivity.

Beyond the terminal itself, the transformation of the Victor Attah International Airport has been driven by a deliberate ex*****on of multiple critical infrastructure projects, including the completion of the runway support systems, expansion of the apron, and strengthening of taxiway networks to support increased aircraft movement and operational capacity.

Complementary developments such as perimeter security enhancements, advanced aerodrome lighting, and modern surveillance systems have further elevated the airport’s compliance with global aviation standards, reinforcing its readiness for sustained international operations.

The airport environment has also been expanded to include support infrastructure such as improved access roads, parking facilities, and auxiliary service areas, all to create a seamless interface between air transport operations and ground mobility.

For Ibom Air, the commencement of international operations represents a strategic expansion built on its established reputation for efficiency, consistency, and service reliability within Nigeria’s domestic aviation market.

While the inaugural flight to Accra marks the beginning, plans are already underway to expand routes to other international destinations, with necessary regulatory approvals and operational frameworks.

In preparation for this expansion, the airline is also working towards fleet standardization to enhance operational efficiency, identity, and manageability, while exploring partnerships with international Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul service providers to strengthen technical capacity.

The commencement of international flights is expected to unlock significant economic opportunities for Akwa Ibom State, particularly in the areas of trade, tourism, investment, and regional integration.

Aviation, widely acknowledged as a catalyst for economic growth, is projected to stimulate increased business activity, improve access to global markets, and position the state as a competitive destination for both local and international investors.

This development is in furtherance of the aviation development element of ARISE Agenda of Governor Umo Eno's administration which priorities infrastructure development as a foundation for sustainable growth and inclusive prosperity.

Since assumption of office, Governor Eno has maintained a consistent focus on completing critical projects in line with his finisher's anointing and ensuring that public investments translate into measurable benefits for the people.

The operationalisation of the international terminal and the commencement of global flight services reflect a governance approach that emphasises ex*****on, continuity, and impact-driven development.

As stakeholders in the aviation industry, government officials, and citizens converge to witness this landmark event, there is a growing sense of accomplishment and renewed confidence in the state’s development trajectory.

It is the confidence of a people who recognise that Akwa Ibom is no longer on the margins of global connectivity, but actively taking its place within the international aviation community.

With this transition, the state begins a new chapter that is defined by openness, opportunity, and a clear connection to the world.

Sustaining Momentum in AKSG's Agricultural Investment

We have have followed painstakingly the agricultural investment drive of the present administration of Governor Umo Eno in Akwa Ibom State State and feel indebted to advocate that the momentum should be sustained.

We recall that shortly after his advent as the governor of Akwa Ibom State, Governor Umo Eno, inaugurated the distribution of free food to vulnerable households across the 31 local government areas to mitigate the high cost of living. Under the Arise Food Security Programme, the state Bulk Purchase Agency distributed staple foods like rice, garri, and beans, targeting thousands of residents through a structured social register. This was a short term measure to mitigating the food crisis and the prevailing hardship experienced in the state.

We are equally aware that in 2025, the state government under the Arise Empowerment programme enmarked N2billion to empower farmers in the state as one of the measures to provide a lasting solution to food crisis in the state.

Also in 2026, the Akwa Ibom State government has launched a major "Tree Crops Development Programme" under Governor Umo Eno's ARISE Agenda, with plans to invest ₦31 billion in 2026 to plant oil palm and other tree crops. The initiative includes distributing improved seedlings, reviving the Dakkada Oil Palm Estate, and empowering local farmers to create jobs and economic sustainability.

Just last week, Governor Eno commissioned a modern agricultural equipment leasing facility at Ekpri Nsukara, Uyo. The facility according to the state government is primed to help farmers turn agriculture from a peasant undertaking to a mechanized enterprise. During the event, the Governor promised to revamp the moribund Ibom Green House Farm Project, one of the legacy projects of ex-Governor Udom Emmanuel.

We appreciate the state government for taking all these steps to incentivised agriculture in the state and enhance food sufficiency We advocate that this momentum be sustained.

We call on the governor to set-up a monitoring team in the agricultural sector of the state and ensure that all investments in the sector are properly utilised. Furthermore, advocate that real farmers in the state should be given access to the recent palm fruit seedlings procured by the state government. The practice where "portfolio farmers" serve as middlemen, getting government incentives and seedlings meant for real farmers and selling them at exorbitant rates to real farmers should not be allowed to continue.

We are optimistic that Akwa Ibom State will become a dependable food hub in the region if the current tempo of investment in the agricultural sector of the state is sustained.

2027: Battle for APC National Assembly, State Assembly Tickets Hightens in A'Ibom
..as Gov. Eno relies on Akpabio for NASS selection

•Ekong Sampson to return on stringent condition

By Our Reporter

Ahead of the All Progressives Congress, APC Party Primaries in Akwa Ibom State taking place in the month of May, 2026, fresh facts have emerged on the aspirants chosen by Senator Godswill Akpabio and Governor Umo Eno to be given APC tickets for the National Assemblies and State House of Assembly race in 2027.

The Informer Newspaper has with authority the list of serving legislators in the state who would emerge as APC party flag bearers during the forthcoming APC Party Primaries.
According to an exclusive information received by the Informer Newspaper, Governor Umo Eno handed over the decision of selecting returning National Assemblies members (both upper and lower chambers) to the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio and opted to hand-pick serving State House of Assembly members to be given APC tickets for the State House of Assembly's race in 2027.

According to a reliable source who confided in our reporter last Thursday, Senator Akpabio hosted all serving National Assembly members from Akwa Ibom State at his residence in Abuja. However, Hon. Unyime Idem was not present in the meeting as he had left Abuja for Akwa Ibom State to join Governor Umo Eno in his 62nd birthday celebration which took place last Friday in Uyo. At the meeting, Senator Godswill Akpabio was said to have endorsed Senator Aniekan Bassey to run for a second term while Senator Ekong Sampson was advised to go home and engage with his constituents and win their support as majority of them were not in support of Senator Ekong Sampson's second term aspiration.

At the Federal House of Representatives level, Rt. Hon. Unyime Idem, Hon. Clement Jumbo, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo, Hon Ime Okon, Hon. Mark Esset, Hon. Paul Ekpo, Rt. Hon. Patrick Umoh, Hon. Martins Esin, Hon. Alphonsus Uduak Udoudoh, were endorsed by Senator Godswill Akpabio to return to the green chamber in 2027. Meanwhile, Hon. Okpolupm Etteh was dropped due to allegations leveled against him for the quest of Obolo State creation from Akwa Ibom State.

It would be recalled that Governor Umo Eno during 2025 special non- denominational service in Akwa Ibom State to mark the anniversary of Akwa Ibom State creation had promised to resist fiercely any body seeking the creation of a new state out of Akwa Ibom State.

The Informer Newspaper has it on authority that Hon. Okpolupm Ette is believed to have been denied endorsement by the Senate President as a means of truncating further move in the National Assembly for the creation of Obolo State out of Akwa Ibom State.

At the State House of Assembly level, the decision on those to be given APC tickets is greatly influenced by Governor Umo Eno. It would be recalled that Governor Eno before his defection to the All Progressives Congress( APC) in 2025, had a strong pact with the state lawmakers to return all of them that defected with him from PDP to APC back to the State House of Assembly in 2027.

The Informer Newspaper gathered that another nocturnal meeting was held in Akpabio's house in Uyo, last Sunday, where all the federal and state House of Assembly members in the state were present. During the meeting, Governor Umo Eno endorsed 19 serving APC State House of Assembly members to return in 2027, while member representing Itu State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Kufre-abasi Edidem, member representing Mbo State State Rt. Hon. Effiong Johnson and Member representing Etim Ekpo/Ika State constituency Hon. Mfon Idung were dropped.
Hon. Mfon Idung, was replaced with Mr. Boniface Ebewo.

At the meeting, the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio hosted the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, the Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas) Obongemem Ekperikpe Ekpo, members of the National and State Assemblies, and other political stakeholders.
The meeting was held behind closed door.

The Informer Newspaper learnt that the decision to replace Mfon Idung with Mr. Boniface Ebewo came due to the popular demand for a state legislator from Ika Local Government Area.

Meanwhile, local government areas like Etinan and Onna where serving lawmakers in the State House of Assembly refused to defect from PDP to APC were left open for serious aspirants from APC to try their luck during the forthcoming APC primary.

Umo Eno and Uwem Okoko: When Friendship,Trust Speaks Volume

By N.T.A EFO

Yesterday, Uwem Okoko, a civil engineer, Fellow of the Nigeria Society of Engineers and Managing Director of Hensek Integrated Services Ltd, unarguably the best indigenous road construction firm in the South South region of Nigeria (for modest clarification), was awarded a Honorary Doctor of Engineering Degree by the Akwa Ibom State University, the best state owned University in the South South.

The Visitor to the institution, Governor Umo Eno, a business analytic researcher and holder of a doctoral degree in Public Administration, who celebrated his 62nd birthday a day before, was in attendance.

Aside attending the function as Visitor to the University, he was also there to share and honour his friends and associates who were amongst the graduands and those honoured with Honorary doctorate degrees like Okoko.

Those who know Governor Eno will tell you that he is intentional about everything he does. He is never under pressure. He does the things he believes in and though he panders to superior opinions, as he is also a listening Governor who loves to learn, he is wise enough to differentiate between wise and foolish counsel.

He is even much more intentional about the relationships he keeps and the people he associates and works with.

Political activities aside, Governor Umo Eno is one person who loves his space and can only share it with anyone at his pleasure. He never goes after someone's space, even at the person's pleasure. You can say he is a contented person.

That doesn't make him a recluse though. He keeps company, plays and have fun but he chooses his friends and associates, and keeps them very close. But because he has always been a strong example of courage, determination and dedication to enterprise, a lot of people seek his company, whether as associates or as friends. Even when he is aware of this, he still is the one who makes the choice of those to associate with. It is this selective association that has enabled him keep a list of only A-list friends and associates, most of who share the same character of being focused, determined and dedicated to whatever call they are into.

In politics, you meet, the beautiful, the handsome, the ugly, the best, the worst, the bad, the tall, the short, the intelligent, the foolish, the wise, those who believe in God, those who do not, those who are generous, those who are stingy, those who are greedy, all manner of people.

As Governor, it has always been his creative ability to know how to deal with all of these people, as he remains Governor to and for all. And this he has done well, to the cheers of all Akwa Ibom people regardless of religious and political beliefs, status and social standing.

Okoko has been a permanent fixture in the government of Governor Eno, especially as a regular on trips, tours, functions and meetings with the Governor, within and outside the country.

Not many believe he should be on those trips, tours, meetings and events. Not many also believe he should even be seen anywhere near Government House, the Governor or at political events. Many others think he should only be seen in the premises of Hensek Integrated Services Ltd or on the sites where the company has work to do.

So, why is he that close to the Governor and his government?

Those of us who have known Okoko for years know him to possess certain character traits that have defined him, and they have been as constant as the northern star over the years.

Like Governor Eno, Okoko loves his space. Like Governor Eno, he allows you into his space at his own pleasure and does not go seeking to live or play in people's spaces, no matter the gratification involved. He is also a principled, focused and determined fellow. As son of a former House of Representatives member and political giant who had good contacts and with elder brothers and cousins in good positions in the nation's oil industry, Okoko refused to do any of his internship and attachments with the then Mobil Producing Nigeria while in school, prefering to serve at his father's Hensek, where he learned the ropes of power installation and civil engineering, leading to where he is today.

As the Managing Director of Hensek in later years, he has combined the doggedness, smartness, toughness he learnt at the father's feet with the courage, dedication and determination he picked up through varied experiences and has succeeded as an entrepreneur. Despite the success, he can tell you the road wasn't that smooth and straight. He will tell you of trials, denials, doubts, rejections, difficulties and troubles. Even after succeeding, he will tell you it's been through the grace and mercies of God which is always abundantly around him.

For him, politics is an area he would rather keep away from. But due to his generous and compassionate nature, people keep pulling him in deeper and deeper into politics. And for him, he is in politics for the sake of people. For, on his own, he is better alone. But through politics, he has a larger platform to assist a lot of people and his community to get better.

That Governor Eno spotted him much earlier for association and friendship is a testament to his character.

Many do not know that it is at the pleasure of the Governor that Okoko is always around him. In a nation where people have to bribe their way into presidential and governors' entourages, it is hard to tell people he prefers to keep away from most of the trips, meetings, events but it is the Governor who sees and makes him an important part of his activities.

Is the Governor wrong? No. Why? As a Governor, the paraphernalia of office offers new insights to life. If you are not wise (and of course Governor Eno is), you may be doing the things you never envisaged doing or keep the companies you do not wish to. But Governor Eno is a detailed person. He reads. He listens. He observes. These he does wisely. He knows the character of everyone around and about him. He knows those to trust with responsibilities and those he cannot.

After reading Okoko like a book, the Governor has come to believe greatly in his counsel, his company and his acumen. He knows he is not around him for monetary and pecuniary purposes. He knows if he wants him to carry out a responsibility, he will do so cheerfully. The Governor knows he will not take a bribe from anybody to betray the government. The fact that he was made to oversee many of the political activities of government, including recently, leading, as the President General, the Arise With Renewed Hope Initiative, gives a lot of insight to this. The governor knows he is like him, an entrepreneur, who only found himself, like him again, in politics, to serve the people.

For a long time to come, Okoko will keep being beside, around and about the Governor, at the Governor's pleasure. This should not bother anyone. The question should be; is his being around the Governor affecting the jobs his company does? No! He runs a firm that is structured, and where people take their responsibilities seriously. Is his being around the Governor giving him undue advantages in contracts? No! There are several other construction firms working for the Government. At the moment, ther are over a hundred direct civil construction jobs going on in the state and Hensek is not handling up to 10 of them. There are also 62 one per local government area projects, over 1000 housing projects etc, across the state handled by different construction firms.

The Governor sees him as that brother, that associate who is not after what he can get from the government. He is that close person the Governor can send on errands and knows he will deliver. He is that close friend who can give the Governor good counsel, a friend who is reliable, dependable, trustworthy, upright, faithful, honourable and loyal.

Though Okoko is not the only of such friends, he is one, and he has earned it.

At the AKSU event, the Governor who spoke to the graduands on the power of enterprise, had himself and Okoko in mind. Both built their companies, Royalty and Hensek, from little beginnings to enviable heights. Both dared to dream big for their companies.

The Governor whose doctoral thesis was on Government and Private Sector Development: A Study of Small and Medium Scale Enterprises in Akwa Ibom State, said "The world rewards those who dream, dare and drive change through ideas and vision. This is the same message I am giving you today: do something daring, dream of something, however small, put in the building blocks for its actualization and you will be mightily surprised where such may lead you."

To a friendship of shared vision and ambition, complementary strengths, trust and reliability, similar work ethic and standards, and personal compatibility, to Okoko's recognition and honour by AKSU, and to a Governor who keeps being intentional in all he does to raise the bar of progress, growth and development in Akwa Ibom State, I raise a glass.
