If I want a higher FPS, should I upgrade my CPU or GPU?

To get more FPS in video games, should I change my CPU or my GPU?
That depends on which component is currently your bottleneck, for the games you’re playing at the settings you’re using.

Just open Task Manager, play the game for a while, then check your GPU usage chart. If the GPU was stuck at 100%, you should upgrade your GPU. Otherwise, you should upgrade your CPU.

Do not look at CPU usage charts, those are too difficult to decipher (they could be showing 10% usage and you could still be CPU-bottlenecked).

If you have a computer science student in your family, at church or know one around you, kindly buy that student a laptop. And possibly monitor, link and get the person engaged in some internships while in school. Encourage him/her to be attending BootCamps, join Google Developers Group in his/her Institution (if not yet available, could start one by being active in the one nearest, about a year later, might be guided to establish in his/her institution) or other computing virtual events.
If you're such a student, Follow experts on X (Twitter), Facebooks and LinkedIn. Make these experts willing to mentor you by asking real thoughtful questions, making comments and engaging in their contents. Make yourself visible. Some might be willing to coach if they spot you're intentional about learning regardless of whatever unique circumstance you might have.

Ai might seem like magic, but it comes with a very real price tag. From training sophisticated models to maintaining their day-to-day operations, the costs can add up quickly.

Understanding the costs involves looking at data limits and the computing power for training and running ai:
🔹 data limits refer to the vast amounts of information ai needs to learn and make decisions. This data isn’t just large in volume but also needs to be managed and stored, which can be costly.
🔹 computing power to train ai is the intense processing power required to teach ai how to perform tasks.
🔹 computing power to run ai is the ongoing energy ai requires to operate daily.

These elements contribute significantly to the overall cost of developing and maintaining ai systems. Let’s dive into these costs to understand better what goes into powering ai.

AI: a city that never sleeps
think of a relatively small-sized ai system as a city. This city needs constant energy (data) and infrastructure (computing power) to keep it running smoothly and efficiently.

Data costs: the city’s power supply
data is the electricity that powers our ai city. Just as a city needs power to light up buildings, run transport, and keep homes warm, ai needs data to learn and make decisions. This power isn’t free, and the cost can be quite substantial considering the vast amounts of data ai consumes.
Let’s estimate the city’s monthly power bill:
if storing and processing one gigabyte costs $0.10 and our ai city uses 100,000 gigabytes a month, how much does it spend on its power bill?
