The Kano State government has allocated a whopping N2.5 billion for quarterly mass weddings across its 44 local government areas in 2025. This initiative aims to support underprivileged couples who struggle to afford wedding expenses. The government will provide financial assistance, dowries, furniture, and other essentials to help these couples start their new life together.
This massive budget is part of the state's N91.32 billion allocation for governance and service delivery. Other notable expenditures include N1 billion for Ramadan feeding programs, N955 million for manpower statistics and surveys, and N1.049 billion for purchasing printing machines and rehabilitating water systems.
While this initiative is commendable, one can't help but wonder if this is the best use of public funds, especially in light of the subsidy removal.

Exonerated: Woman Falsely Accused of Poisoning Ex-Boyfriend and Friends
