My mum asked me to put my hand on her chest and pray for her. Then she prayed for my safe journey home. I didn't know it would be the last prayer she would ever make for me.

It was this same day last year that I received a call that my mum was sick.

I was shocked.

She was coughing blood.

Someone who had called me just the previous day, sounding healthy and fine.

Immediately, I dropped everything I was doing and started heading to Ikorodu.

I told my younger brother to meet me there.

I got to Ikorodu around **6:30 p.m.**, and my mum was surprised to see me.

A few minutes after I arrived, my younger brother also came, and we started preparing to take her to the hospital.

At some point, she said she wanted to use the toilet.

After she was done, she performed ablution and asked me if she could pray Maghrib since it was already around 6:50 p.m.

I said yes.

My younger brother was like, *“We should be going to the hospital first.”

I told him, “Ogbeni, allow her to pray jare.”

She performed her prayer, and immediately after, we all left for the hospital.

When we got there, she was admitted and placed on a drip.

I told the doctor that she had been coughing blood, and he assured me that she would be fine.

After spending some hours at the hospital, I left my younger brother there to spend the night with her.

I returned early the next morning with food for my mum and so my brother could go home, have his bath and rest.

I noticed that she wasn't coughing blood anymore, but her breathing still wasn't completely normal.

I told the doctor about it, and she assured me that my mum would be fine once she took the medication that had been prescribed for her.

By around **8 p.m.**, the person who was supposed to bring the medication still hadn't arrived.

But my mum's condition had actually improved.

I went somewhere to pray, and when I returned, I told my mum I would be going back home because the doctor had said she would be discharged the following morning.

I also had some work I needed to deliver.

But something about that night still stays with me.

**She didn't tell me it was late.**

She didn't say, *“Don't go home tonight,”* like she normally would.

Instead, she simply asked me to place my hand on her chest and pray for her.

I did.

And then she prayed for me too.

**She prayed for a safe journey.**

Before leaving, I went to the doctor and asked again:

“Doctor, she will really be discharged tomorrow, right?”

He said yes.

He told me that once the medication arrived, my mum would be discharged.

I left the hospital believing I would see her again the next morning.

*But the reverse was the case.*

What happened next is something I will never forget for the rest of my life.

WAEC Timetable for 2026 GCE (2nd series)

WAEC GCE 2nd series CBT timetable for 2026 is now available. The exams will commence on Friday 4th September - Wednesday 28th October, 2026. All candidates who have registered for the 2026 2nd series WAEC GCE can access the CBT timetable here.

Meanwhile, the registration for the exam is still ongoing. Closing date for Generation of PIN is Friday, August, 28th, 2026. Intending candidates are advised to complete their Biometrics capturing and Online registration by 11:59pm on Sunday, August 30th, 2026.

JAMB UPDATE: O’LEVEL RESULTS CAN NOW BE UPLOADED FROM HOME!

The pain of losing someone you’re extremely close to is unexplainable.

And honestly, there’s nobody who can truly understand that pain except someone who has experienced it too.

You’ll think you’re very good at consoling people. You’ll say, “Ah, mo mọ̀ bí a ṣe ń tù ẹni nínú.”

Until it happens to you.

Wàá sì mọ̀ pé ó dun títí ó fi ṣẹlẹ̀ sí ẹ.

I lost my mum last year, and till today, I’m still trying to heal from the pain.

There were days I was completely down. I was in a sickbed for days and even experienced nosebleeds for weeks. I completely lost myself. I couldn’t concentrate. I couldn’t do anything meaningful.

Nothing moved me.

Nothing excited me.

I was just existing.

One thing I’m grateful to God for is that my mum was sick for some days before she passed. Honestly, I don’t know how I would have survived waking up one morning and hearing, “Your mum is dead.”

Haaaa… the shock alone might have finished me.

That was when I truly understood the saying:

**“Olóhun má fi ayé òpè.”**

There are some pains you cannot explain until life makes you experience them yourself.

That’s why I pray especially for the children and everyone close to him, particularly Kira. I know what it means to lose someone you’re deeply attached to. I was extremely close to my mum, and almost a year later, I’m still feeling the weight of her absence.

May God ease the pain in the hearts of his wife, his children, and the entire family.

May God forgive all his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest.

THE UNIVERSITY YOU CHOOSE CAN DETERMINE YOUR ADMISSION CHANCES

Many candidates focus on the course they want to study but pay little attention to the institution they choose.

This is a costly mistake.

Not all universities have the same level of competition, admission policies, or available spaces. A score that may not be competitive in one university could be highly competitive in another.

For instance, if thousands of candidates apply for a limited number of spaces in a particular programme, even a high UTME score may not be enough. On the other hand, another institution offering the same course may have fewer applicants and better admission opportunities.

This doesn't mean you should avoid your dream university. It means you should make informed decisions.

Research before applying:

* How competitive is your chosen course in that institution?
* What has been the admission trend in previous years?
* Does the university conduct Post-UTME or another screening process?

* What are the specific admission requirements?

Are you preparing for 2027 UTME?

YOU GOT D, E OR F IN A CORE WAEC SUBJECT AND YOU DIDN'T WRITE NECO? PLEASE READ THIS.

First, don't panic

I know seeing a D7, E8 or F9 in a subject you needed for admission can be painful.

You may have already started thinking:

"What will happen to my admission?"

"Does this mean I have to rewrite JAMB?"

"What am I going to tell my parents?"

Relax.

There may still be a way to fix the problem.

If you didn't write NECO as a backup, one option you can consider is the WAEC Nov/Dec GCE.

And before you start thinking:

Is GCE another completely different examination?

No.

1. GCE is still WAEC.

The major difference is the category of examination.

The WAEC you wrote in school was the school candidates' examination.

Nov/Dec GCE is the private candidates' examination.

That's why people who are no longer in secondary school can also register for it.

Even someone who has left school for years can sit for the examination.

You can still register for the private candidates' examination to rewrite the subjects you need.

2. You can use the result for admission.

A WAEC GCE result can be used as an O'level result for admission, subject to the requirements of the institution/course you're applying for.

So don't automatically assume:
"Because I wrote GCE, universities won't accept it."

However, the GCE results in the same year of admission is not acceptable. I.e you cannot use 2026 Nov/Dec results for 2026 admission

3. You can combine results where two sittings are allowed.

For example, if you have a WAEC result with some required credits and another result that contains the subjects you're missing, you may be able to combine them where the institution permits two sittings.

But please don't assume every school or course accepts two sittings.

Check the specific admission requirements of your institution and course.

BUT THERE IS SOMETHING VERY IMPORTANT YOU NEED TO KNOW.

If you're hoping to use the Nov/Dec GCE result for an admission exercise taking place in the same year, don't assume it will be accepted.

The timing of O'level results and the institution's admission deadline matters.

So if your current result has a deficit, don't sit down waiting for admission to somehow work itself out.

You can use this period to:

✅ Register for the subjects you need to correct.

✅ Start preparing for the examination.

✅ Start preparing for the next UTME if necessary.

✅ Research the O'level requirements for the course you want.

Because honestly, this is not the time to cry over the result every morning.

Cry if you need to.

Be disappointed.

It's normal.

But after crying, look for the solution.

A bad WAEC result is a problem.

It doesn't have to become the end of your academic journey.

And please, don't wait until the last minute before registering.

You can register through an approved registration centre/café and select your preferred examination town from the available options.

Registration deadline is August 28

And one more thing:THE EXAMINATION IS CBT.

So if you're planning to write Nov/Dec GCE, don't prepare as if you're going back to the old paper-and-pen examination.

Prepare to sit in front of a computer and answer your questions yourself.

No "Sir, help me check number 7.😂

No "Madam, which option is correct?"

You and that computer will have a serious conversation. 😂

So if you got D7, E8 or F9 in a subject you need, don't just post the result and conclude that your admission journey is over.
