We are currently celebrating AMR awareness week, what do you know about Antimicrobial resistance and have you ever heard about it before?

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is when drugs used to treat microbes such as bacteria and fungi no longer work.
This is because those microbes have developed mechanisms that enable them to evade or inactive the drug and even modify drug targets.

AMR has mostly been linked to indiscriminate antimicrobial use in human, consumption of antimicrobial residue in animals and a lot of others.
Most available antimicrobials have been abused and when microbes are fully resistant to these drugs, it means that people will die not because of drugs unavailability but because, the available drugs are no longer working for the diseases.

Antimicrobial resistance is a global menace and kills millions of people worldwide every year. In 2019, 5 million deaths was associated with AMR and it is expected that 10 million people will die annually from AMR by 2050.

It is important to see a doctor when you are sick and properly complete your doses of antibiotics.

The Executives led by Ibrahim Ibn Umar (President IVSA-UDUS) of the above name association in their efforts of uplifting the standard of the association and promoting inclusiveness across the Local, National, Regional and Global levels pays an official courtesy visit on the 17th and 18th of May 2023, to staffs of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto whom are found worthy of the appointment as one of the staff adviser/patrons of the association, after introduction of executives by the President (Ibrahim Ibn Umar) and brief but concise explanation of what the association entails , its Aims and Objectives, Opportunities and mode of operations which lead to a fruitful meeting between the executives and the staff adviser/patrons.
In their no relenting efforts the executives extend their visit to various classes (preclinical, Para clinical and clinical) briefing their colleagues on the National, Regional and Global opportunities, collaborations and networks they stand to gain as an official members of the association. In return the association within the week has receive a massive turnout from students across the classes interested to be an official active member which are to be interviewed and successful applicant are to be inducted into the association.
Finally as we patiently await more interested individuals across the various classes to join,the executives and members of the association use this medium to appreciate our new staff adviser/patrons, students, members and staffs of Faculty of Veterinay Medicine Usmanu Danfodio University Sokoto, Sokoto State of their unending supports towards the betterment of the association and the Veterinary Profession.
