Ready for iron work

When bending your stirrups, ensure your iron bender bends your stirrup hook at an angle of 135 degrees as against the traditional 90 degrees, especially in columns and beams, where stirrups are introduced for the purpose of resisting shear forces.
Some of the reasons why site engineers should not compromise on bending schedules are as follows

135 degrees hook provides a larger contact area with the concrete, ensures better bonding between rebar and concrete, which helps resist shear forces and prevents stirrups from slipping out as a result of earthquakes or any seismic events

It helps to distribute loads more effectively, resulting in higher shear strength, and due to increased shear strength and anchorage the risk of failure due to cracking and separation is reduced drastically

The 135 degree of bending also contributes to improved confinement of core concrete , especially for columns which can prevent the column failure by buckling.

Because bending at 90 degrees is easier and faster, a lot of iron benders would want to argue and give you reasons why they would want to bend at 90 degrees, resist it and educate them on why we should bend appropriately.

Spacers

In concrete construction, a spacer regularly called (biscuit) is a material used to maintain a consistent gap between the reinforcements bars and the form work, it helps in giving enough concrete cover to the reinforcement to avoid exposure and corrosion.

There are different kinds of spacers
Plastic spacers
Metal spacers
Concrete spacers
Adjustable spacers

Spacers are so important in construction work because it ensures structural integrity, durability, concrete safety and helps to maintain consistent quality control.

As you plan on embraking on your next construction, make sure you don't neglect or compromise your concrete spacing, ensure to use the required size of spacers as designed and recommended by your Engr.
