NSCDC, OYO STATE COMMAND, HOLDS HEALTH TALK, PROMOTES PREVENTIVE HEALTHCARE AMONG PERSONNEL

The State Commandant, NSCDC, Oyo State Command, Commandant Augustine Padonu, has once again demonstrated his commitment to the welfare and well-being of personnel through the organisation of a comprehensive Health Talk at the State Command Headquarters.

The health talk, organised by the Crisis Management Department of the State Command, was held on Tuesday, 11th August, 2026, at the State Command Headquarters, Agodi, Ibadan, with the objective of promoting health awareness, preventive healthcare and healthy living among personnel.

The programme focused on three important areas of health, namely Eye Defects and Treatment, Hypertension and Diabetes, and Stress Management. The sessions were delivered by representatives of three medical service providers: Divine Eye Care Centre, NTA Gate, Ibadan; Gracefill Clinic, Bodija, Ibadan; and Brimstone Global Solutions, Lagos.

Speaking during the programme, the State Commandant, Commandant Augustine Padonu, who was represented by the Second-in-command to the State Commandant, DCC Timothy Patunola, emphasised the importance of maintaining good health, particularly given the nature and responsibilities of security personnel.

He noted that the popular saying “Health is Wealth” is an old saying that continues to find relevance in contemporary society, stressing that personnel must take their health seriously because of the demanding responsibilities associated with their duties.

According to him, officers require sound physical and mental health to effectively discharge their responsibilities and contribute meaningfully to the security and protection of lives and property. He therefore encouraged personnel to take advantage of opportunities that promote health awareness, early detection and preventive care.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Head of Crisis Management Department, DCC Ademola Olasedidun, appreciated the medical service providers for their willingness to partner with the Command and provide health education and screening services to personnel.

DCC Olasedidun encouraged officers to take full advantage of the programme, noting that regular health checks and adequate knowledge about common health conditions could contribute significantly to early detection and appropriate management.

In her presentation, the representative of Divine Eye Care Centre, Dr. Miliscent Oghogho, spoke extensively on various eye defects, their possible causes, symptoms and appropriate measures for managing them. She emphasised the importance of regular eye examinations and seeking professional attention whenever changes in vision or other eye-related concerns are noticed.

The representative of Gracefill Clinic, Bodija, Ibadan, addressed personnel on Hypertension and Diabetes. She highlighted the importance of regular monitoring, healthy lifestyle choices and early detection in preventing complications associated with the conditions. Officers were encouraged to take their blood pressure and blood sugar levels seriously and seek appropriate medical attention when necessary.

Also speaking on Stress Management, Abigail Egionu of Brimstone Global Solutions educated personnel on the importance of recognising and appropriately managing stress. She highlighted practical approaches to maintaining emotional and mental well-being, particularly in view of the demanding nature of security duties.

The programme also featured practical health screening conducted by the participating medical service providers. Personnel had the opportunity to undergo eye tests, blood pressure checks and blood sugar tests, stress level diagnosis, among other assessments. The results of the examinations were subsequently presented to the respective personnel.

The initiative provided personnel with not only health education but also an opportunity for basic health screening and increased awareness of the importance of preventive healthcare.

The Command therefore appreciates Divine Eye Care Centre, Gracefill Clinic and Brimstone Global Solutions for their professional contributions and partnership in making the programme beneficial to personnel.

The health talk further underscores the commitment of the NSCDC, Oyo State Command, to the welfare of its personnel, recognising that healthy, physically and mentally fit personnel are better positioned to effectively discharge their statutory responsibilities and contribute to the safety and security of the people.

NSCDC OYO COMMAND HOLDS SAFE SCHOOLS SEMINAR, STRENGTHENS STAKEHOLDERS' COLLABORATION ON SCHOOL SAFETY

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Oyo State Command, on Wednesday, 29th July, 2026, organized a One-Day Safe Schools Seminar themed "Building Resilient Schools in Oyo State" at the Local Government Hall, Oyo State Secretariat, Ibadan, as part of its commitment to strengthening the security and resilience of educational institutions across the State.

The seminar brought together key stakeholders from government, security agencies, the education sector, civil society organizations, and development partners to deliberate on practical strategies for safeguarding schools against emerging security threats.

Representing the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Olusegun Olayiwola, was the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. B. T. Oyinloye, who was accompanied by Directors of the Ministry. The Commissioner for Establishments was represented by Mr. Ayoola Olumuyiwa James, while the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters was represented by Mr. Akin Oyedele.

Also present were representatives of sister security agencies, including the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, represented by SP Adegoke Ademola; the State Director, Department of State Services (DSS), represented by Mr. Tokunbo William; the Comptroller, Nigeria Immigration Service, represented by Deputy Comptroller Immigration Ile Cosmos Aladi; the Comptroller, Nigeria Correctional Service, represented by Superintendent of Corrections Fakeye O. E.; and the Comptroller, Federal Fire Service, represented by Superintendent of Fire Jembola Abayomi.

Other organizations represented at the seminar included the Man O' War Nigeria, Peace Corps of Nigeria, National Orientation Agency (NOA), represented by Mrs. Abidemi Adewale; Alliance on Civil Society, represented by Pastor Adeniyi Samuel; the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), represented by Mr. Ademola Oyewole; and the Iya Loja of Bodija Market, Alhaja Sikirat Tantolohun.

The education sector was also well represented by the State President of the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Mr. Fasasi Abdullahi Babatunde; the State Chairman, Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, Oyo State (AOPSHON), Mr. Ilori Omosola Solomon; the State Chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Oyo State, Mr. Hassan Ajibola Fatai; TESCOM Zone 1, represented by Mrs. Ajibike, Director of Personnel and Administration; and the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), represented by Mrs. Adewole Oyeronke, Executive Director.

The State Commandant, NSCDC Oyo State Command, Commandant Augustine Padonu, was represented by the Second-in-Command to the State Commandant, Deputy Commandant of Corps (DCC) Timothy Patunola, who delivered the Commandant's address.

In his speech, the State Commandant emphasized that education remains the foundation of national development and that every child deserves to learn in a safe, secure, and conducive environment. He noted that the recent security challenges affecting schools, including the recent abduction of students in Oyo State, have reinforced the need for proactive measures to strengthen school security rather than waiting to respond after incidents occur. He stressed that the Safe Schools Programme is a strategic initiative designed to promote risk awareness, improve emergency preparedness, strengthen collaboration among stakeholders, and guarantee uninterrupted teaching and learning.

The Commandant further disclosed that, throughout the month of July 2026, NSCDC, Oyo State Command, under his leadership, embarked on an unprecedented statewide Safe Schools sensitization campaign. He stated that all the Area Commands and Divisional Offices across the thirty-three Local Government Areas of Oyo State visited public and private schools to educate pupils, students, teachers, school administrators, and non-teaching staff on personal safety, situational awareness, emergency preparedness, the "See Something, Say Something" principle, and other preventive measures aimed at building resilient schools.

Earlier in her welcome address, the State Coordinator, Safe Schools Programme, DCC Patricia Eremiokhale, welcomed participants and expressed appreciation to the Oyo State Government, the Ministry of Education, partner agencies, and all stakeholders for supporting the Safe Schools initiative. She described the seminar as a platform for strengthening collaboration, sharing knowledge, and enhancing the capacity of stakeholders to protect educational institutions and ensure that schools remain safe spaces for teaching and learning.

Speaking on behalf of the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. B. T. Oyinloye commended NSCDC for its unwavering commitment to the protection of schools and the implementation of the Safe Schools Programme across Oyo State. She highlighted various initiatives of the Ministry aimed at improving the safety and welfare of learners and reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to sustaining its partnership with NSCDC and other stakeholders to prevent a recurrence of the recent attack schools.

The representative of the Commissioner for Establishments, Mr. Ayoola Olumuyiwa James, lauded the initiative and emphasized that ensuring safe learning environments requires sustained government support, effective policy implementation, and inter-agency collaboration.

Similarly, the representative of the Commissioner of Police, SP Adegoke Ademola, reiterated the Nigeria Police Force's commitment to continued collaboration with NSCDC and other security agencies in protecting schools, preventing crime, and responding promptly to security threats affecting educational institutions.

The representative of the Comptroller, Nigeria Immigration Service, Deputy Inspector Ile Cosmos Aladi, also assured participants of the Service's continued support in intelligence sharing and collaborative efforts aimed at safeguarding schools and protecting children.

In his goodwill message on behalf of educational institutions in the State, the State President of ANCOPSS, Mr. Fasasi Abdullahi Babatunde, commended NSCDC for taking the lead in promoting school safety and pledged the support of school administrators in implementing safety measures across secondary schools.

Speaking on behalf of private organizations and development partners, Pastor Adeniyi Samuel, representing the Alliance on Civil Society, called for greater community participation and stronger partnerships in safeguarding educational institutions.

Delivering the goodwill message on behalf of corporate organizations, Mr. Ademola Oyewole of FERMA emphasized the importance of safe access roads, proper infrastructure, and coordinated stakeholder efforts in creating secure learning environments.

The seminar featured three technical lectures designed to equip participants with practical knowledge on school safety. The first lecture, "Child Protection and Anti-Violence," was delivered by Superintendent of Corps Jude Olaniregun, Head of Unit, Forensic and Psychological Services. The second lecture, "Awareness and Prevention of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence," was presented by Mr. Steven Olayiwola of the Oyo State Ministry of Education. The third lecture, "Emergency Preparedness in Educational Institutions," was delivered by Assistant Superintendent of Corps I Hammed Solagbade, Desk Officer, Critical Thinking, Research and Innovation.

A playlet depicting common security threats within school environments and appropriate preventive responses was staged to reinforce the seminar's key messages. The event also featured an interactive session during which participants asked questions on school safety, emergency response, and stakeholder responsibilities. The questions were addressed by the representative of the State Commandant, DCC Timothy Patunola, who reaffirmed NSCDC's commitment to sustaining the Safe Schools Programme and strengthening collaboration with all stakeholders.

The seminar concluded with a renewed commitment by government institutions, security agencies, educational stakeholders, civil society organizations, and development partners to work collectively towards building safer and more resilient schools across Oyo State.

COMMANDANT PADONU PLEDGES PARTNERSHIP WITH FEDERATION OF OYO STATE STUDENT UNION

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Oyo State Command, has reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with students and youth organizations in promoting peace, safety and security across Oyo State.

This assurance was given by the State Commandant, Commandant Augustine Padonu, when he received the National President of the Federation of Oyo State Student Union (FOSSU), Mr. Mufutau Ahmed, who led members of the newly inaugurated executive council of the union on a familiarization visit to the State Command Headquarters, Agodi, Ibadan, on Thursday, 30th July, 2026.

Speaking during the visit, the National President of FOSSU stated that the purpose of the visit was to familiarize the new leadership of the union with NSCDC and formally introduce the executives who were inaugurated on 11th June, 2026.

Mr. Ahmed commended the Corps for its unwavering commitment to the protection of lives, property and Critical National Assets and Infrastructure across Oyo State. He emphasized the need for a strong partnership between NSCDC and the student community to foster a safer and more secure environment within educational institutions and the state at large.

The FOSSU President further informed the Commandant that the union would be organizing a major programme in August 2026 and requested the support of the Corps through the provision of adequate security coverage to ensure the success of the event.

He also appealed to the Command to develop and implement student-focused security initiatives and awareness programmes that would educate students on security consciousness, crime prevention, and their roles in supporting the security architecture of Oyo State.

Responding, the State Commandant, Commandant Augustine Padonu, appreciated the leadership of FOSSU for identifying with the Corps and acknowledged the importance of students as critical stakeholders in sustaining peace and security.

He noted that NSCDC is strategically positioned across Oyo State with Area Commands and Divisions spread throughout the state, as well as specialized units and formations such as the Agro Rangers Squad, Mining Marshal, Safe School Unit, Counter Terrorism Unit, Critical National Assets and Infrastructure Protection Unit, Intelligence and Investigation Department, and other operational units dedicated to addressing emerging security challenges.

The Commandant assured the student body of the Command's readiness to partner with FOSSU in promoting security awareness among students and pledged to provide the necessary security deployment for the union's forthcoming programme in August.

He encouraged students to remain law-abiding, security conscious and to promptly provide credible information to security agencies, stressing that effective security is a shared responsibility.

The visit concluded with the presentation of souvenirs and a group photograph as both organizations reaffirmed their commitment to sustained collaboration in advancing peace, security and the overall development of Oyo State.

NSCDC, NTA STRENGTHEN PARTNERSHIP TO PROTECT BROADCAST INFRASTRUCTURE AND COMBAT INSECURITY IN OYO STATE

The Zonal Director, Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Ibadan Network Centre, Mr. Taiwo Omotayo Iterogba, on Thursday, 16th July, 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Oyo State Command, Commandant Augustine Padonu, at the Command Headquarters, Agodi, Ibadan.

Speaking during the visit, Mr. Iterogba emphasized the long-standing cordial relationship between NTA and NSCDC at the national level, noting that such collaboration should be further strengthened at the sub-national level, particularly in Oyo State.

The Zonal Director disclosed that the Ibadan Network Centre oversees ten NTA stations across the South-West geopolitical zone, reaffirming that the Nigerian Television Authority remains Nigeria's foremost television broadcasting network with an enduring commitment to informing, educating and entertaining the public.

He, however, expressed concern over the increasing attacks on NTA installations by vandals, particularly facilities belonging to the Ibadan Network Centre and NTA Oyo. According to him, the persistent acts of vandalism have adversely affected transmission, stressing that broadcasting operations are highly sensitive and that transmission disruptions, even for a few seconds, could have significant operational consequences.

Mr. Iterogba stated that the growing security challenges necessitate stronger collaboration with security agencies and appealed to the State Commandant to provide armed NSCDC personnel for the protection of the Authority's critical broadcast infrastructure across the state.

He further assured the Command that NTA would continue to provide adequate media platforms to showcase the activities, programmes, achievements and public enlightenment efforts of NSCDC Oyo State Command, thereby promoting greater public awareness of the Corps' contributions to the safety and security of lives and property.

In his response, the State Commandant, Commandant Augustine Padonu, appreciated the Zonal Director and his delegation for the visit, describing it as timely and significant in fostering inter-agency cooperation.

Commandant Padonu reiterated that one of the statutory mandates of NSCDC is the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI), under which NTA facilities are categorised. He assured the delegation that the Command would deploy armed personnel to strengthen the security of the affected broadcast installations in line with the Corps' mandate.

The State Commandant observed that security challenges have become increasingly complex and widespread, making collaboration among government institutions and stakeholders indispensable. He emphasized that no single agency can effectively tackle insecurity in isolation and called for sustained partnerships in safeguarding national assets.

He also highlighted the various operational efforts of NSCDC Oyo State Command in ensuring the security of lives and property across the state. These include the deployment of Agro Rangers personnel to agrarian communities to address farmers-herders conflicts and other rural security challenges, the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure, anti-vandal operations, disaster management, intelligence gathering, and other strategic interventions aimed at enhancing public safety.

The visit concluded with a renewed commitment by both organisations to deepen their collaboration in protecting critical national infrastructure, promoting public enlightenment, and contributing to the peace, security and sustainable development of Oyo State.

OYO NSCDC BEGINS 3-DAY TRAINING FOR GUARDS OF PRIVATE SECURITY COMPANIES, INAUGURATES TASK FORCE AGAINST ILLEGAL OPERATORS

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Oyo State Command, on Tuesday held an opening ceremony for the commencement of a 3-Day Training Programme for guards of Private Guard Companies (PGCs), holding at the State Command Headquarters, Agodi, Ibadan. The event, themed *"The Role of Private Guard Companies in the Face of Current Security Challenges,"* also featured the inauguration of the Joint Task Force on Illegal PGC Operators.

The Head of Department, Private Guard Companies, DCC Akintayo R. Akande, in his welcome address, described the gathering as timely, noting that Nigeria's evolving security landscape demands collaboration, innovation and professionalism among stakeholders in the private security sector. He explained that the 36-hour, knowledge-driven programme was designed to sharpen participants' capacity and improve service delivery, covering topics such as PGCs as a grassroots intelligence network, internal security and crime prevention, legal boundaries and human rights, forensic support, school safety, report writing and intelligence gathering, and workplace safety.

In his goodwill message, the Chairman, Association of Licensed Private Security Practitioners of Nigeria (ALPSPN), Oyo State Branch, Mr Seyi Alaba, said the role of private security companies has become increasingly important to national security. He called on the guards in attendance to focus fully on the training, describing it as an opportunity to reshape and reposition themselves for more professional and effective service delivery.

Wile declaring the training open, the State Commandant, Commandant Augustine Padonu, in his Opening Speech, charged the guards to see themselves as active partners in the security of Oyo State rather than mere employees of their respective companies. He highlighted the Command's recent achievements in the regulation of the private guard industry, including the licensing of 114 PGCs in the State — 60 under Category "A" and 54 under Category "B" — a robust partnership with ALPSPN, and the generation of ₦8,100,000 into government coffers over the past year through sustained monitoring of new company registration, intelligence gathering through PGCs, and prompt resolution of complaints against operators.

In another development, in order to address the growing concern over the proliferation of illegal private security outlets in the State, the State Commandant inaugurated the executives and members of the Oyo State PGC Joint Task Force. The Task Force is charged with clamping down on illegal PGCs operating within the State, and will work in close collaboration with the NSCDC, Oyo State Command, to sanitise the private security space.

The training programme continues through Thursday, 23rd July 2026, with a Closing Ceremony to round off the exercise.

NSCDC OYO ROUNDS OFF 3-DAY TRAINING FOR GUARDS OF PRIVATE GUARD COMPANIES

The 3-Day Training Programme for guards of Private Guard Companies (PGCs), organised by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Oyo State Command, came to an end on Thursday at the State Command Headquarters, Agodi, Ibadan, with a Closing Ceremony that brought together the Management of the State Command, executives of the Association of Licensed Private Security Practitioners of Nigeria (ALPSPN), Oyo State Chapter, and participating guards.

Speaking at the closing session, the State Commandant, Commandant Augustine Padonu, represented by the second-in-command, DCC Timothy Patunola, said the training of guards had become necessary given the increasingly complex security challenges facing the country, and the growing role Private Guard Companies now play as a critical pillar of the national security architecture. He commended participants for their active engagement throughout the programme and encouraged them to put into practice all they had learnt, stressing that the true value of the training would be measured by the professionalism guards now bring to their daily duties.

In his closing address, the Head of Department, Private Guard Companies, DCC Akintayo Akande, appreciated participants for their active participation, insightful contributions and demonstrated commitment throughout the seminar. He noted that the deliberations had reaffirmed a key truth: that private guarding in Nigeria is not merely a business, but a critical pillar of the nation's security architecture. He urged stakeholders to carry forward three key commitments - collaboration between private guarding and public security efforts, professionalism through continued investment in training, technology and ethics, and appreciation for the dedication of private guards who work tirelessly, often under difficult conditions, to protect lives and property.

He further expressed appreciation to the State Commandant for his leadership and commitment to sanitising and professionalising the private security space, and thanked ALPSPN, resource persons and all participants for their contributions to the success of the event.

Over the three days, participants were taken through a range of topics designed to sharpen their capacity and improve service delivery, including Private Guard Companies as a Grassroots Intelligence Network, Internal Security and Crime Prevention, Legal Boundaries and Human Rights, Forensic Support, School Safety, Report Writing and Intelligence Gathering, and Workplace Safety.

Some of the participants took turns to give testimonies on the benefits of the training, describing it as an eye-opening experience that had broadened their understanding of their roles and sharpened their skills for more effective service delivery.

The 3-day event also formalised the establishment of the Joint Task Force on Illegal PGC Operators, chaired by Group Captain Bisi Ojebola (Rtd), inaugurated to clamp down on illegal Private Guard Companies operating within Oyo State, in collaboration with the NSCDC, Oyo State Command, as part of continuing efforts to sanitise the private security industry in the State.

NSCDC ARRESTS TWO SUSPECTS OVER ALLEGED JOB RACKETEERING AND OBTAINING MONEY BY FALSE PRETENCE DURING CDCFIB RECRUITMENT SCREENING IN IBADAN

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Oyo State Command, has arrested two suspects for their alleged involvement in a job racketeering syndicate during the ongoing 2025/2026 recruitment screening exercise for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), and Federal Fire Service (FFS), conducted by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) in Ibadan.

The suspects were apprehended following credible intelligence and diligent investigative efforts, which uncovered an alleged conspiracy to fraudulently obtain money from unsuspecting job seekers under the false promise of securing employment into the paramilitary services.

Preliminary investigation revealed that one of the suspects allegedly operated a cyber café that was used to facilitate the fraudulent scheme, while the other is believed to have coordinated the collection of money from prospective applicants with false assurances of securing employment into one of the four services under the Ministry of Interior.

Further investigation revealed that the syndicate unlawfully exploited the application details of a genuine applicant without his knowledge in furtherance of the fraudulent scheme. The four unsuspecting job seekers were allegedly deceived into parting with money after being promised employment.

Investigation further revealed that a total sum of eight hundred and sixty eight thousand, five hundred Naira (₦868,500.00) was traced to one of the suspects as proceeds allegedly obtained from victims under false pretences.

The Command wishes to clarify that the affected applicants are currently being treated as victims while investigations continue to establish the full scope of the criminal network and determine the level of involvement of all persons connected with the case.

The suspects are currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing. Upon conclusion of the investigation, they will be charged to court for offences bordering on criminal conspiracy, job racketeering, obtaining money by false pretence, and other related offences.

The State Commandant, Commandant Augustine Padonu, reiterates the Command's commitment to ensuring that the ongoing recruitment exercise remains transparent, credible, and strictly merit-based. He warns members of the public, particularly recruitment applicants, against patronising fraudsters or individuals who claim they can secure employment through unofficial means.

Applicants are advised to rely solely on official information and procedures issued by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB). Members of the public are also encouraged to promptly report any suspicious activities capable of undermining the integrity of the recruitment process.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps remains resolute in its mandate to uphold the rule of law, combat criminality, and ensure that all persons found engaging in fraudulent activities are brought to justice.
