Biography :
Sheikh al-Islam Al-Hajj Ibrahim Niass known as Baye Niass was one of the most influential Muslim scholars and Sufi leaders of the 20th century.
Born on 8th November 1900 in Tayba Niassène, near Kaolack, Senegal
His Father Al-Hajj Abdullah Niass, was a renowned Tijani scholar and leader.
He was a Sunni Muslim (Maliki school of law, Ash'ari theology).
He was Tijaniyyah Sufi Order
From childhood, Sheikh Ibrahim memorized the Qur'an and mastered Islamic sciences, including Tafsir (Qur'anic exegesis), Hadith, Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), Arabic grammar, theology, and Sufism under the guidance of his father.
In 1930, he established Medina Baye in Kaolack, Senegal, which became one of the world's leading centers of Islamic learning and Tijani spirituality.

Major Achievements :
He transformed the Tijani order into one of the largest Sufi movements in the world, with millions of followers across West Africa and beyond.
He established Medina Baye as a major international center for Qur'anic education, scholarship, and spiritual training.
He travelled extensively throughout Africa, the Middle East, Europe, Asia, and North America, teaching Islam and strengthening ties among Muslim communities.
He became the first West African scholar to lead prayers at Al-Azhar Mosque in Cairo, a recognition of his scholarship, and was widely honored with the title "Shaykh al-Islam."
He wrote more than 70 books in Arabic covering Qur'anic exegesis, Sufism, Islamic theology, jurisprudence, poetry (Eulogy of prophet Muhammad), and spiritual education.
He maintained close relationships with African leaders such as Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana
