Read this before you memorize the Qur'an 👇🏼

Yesterday during our online session, one of my little students made a funny statement but I picked something from it.

During the interaction with her teacher, the 5-year-old girl was asked,

“What’s your favourite day of the week?”

She immediately replied with full excitement and joy "FRIDAY!"

Then the teacher asked, “Why Friday?”

She said “I love Friday because I get my iPad on Friday”

It really sounded funny.😅

But then I realised something from that statement.

Could it be 🤔that this kids probably ONLY gets access to her iPad from Friday to Sunday specifically for her online Qur’an class or perhaps she get extra time to use the device than other days during the week.

Whichever the case is, we all know most kids love playing games or watching cartoons on their devices. That's fine!

BUT! What I see with the parent's approach is quite interesting and different!

The kids love to use their iPad but ONLY get it for their classes or MORE on those days(for class) with that, she automatically looks forward to those days.

Now! Without anyone forcing her, she eagerly waits for her next Qur’an class (Friday) because she knows she will get to use it more on that day.

What a beautiful and thoughtful approach from these kid's parents.

As parents we can intentionally tie what your child wants to what you want them to learn. When done well, both goals are achieved.

Instead of forcing or compelling kids to attend classes, or threatening to seize their devices, try linking their learning to something they naturally love. This makes learning exciting, voluntary, and far more effective.

Over time, the love of what they want (iPads or anything) and what you want for them will be built gradually.

The time will never come. Start now or Never

When you finish secondary school, you promised you will start memorizing the Qur'an but instead you engaged in other things till you secured admission

Again you said,

Immediately you get into the campus you will enroll in a Qur'an class to start memorizing the Qur'an but instead you were after your C.G.P.A

At 500 level, you lied again to yourself that your NYSC year will be dedicated to learn the Qur'an but you eventually ended up chasing other things

Now, you are preparing for your Nikkah and you're still telling yourself that when you get married, you will do what you've not been doing all these while.

The truth is, we have several unrealistic expectations of things we want to do later. What we don't start now can't start later

Don't be surprised that you'll only end up saying you will till the Point when death Comes.

Start now and stop waiting till a particular time. The time will never be perfect.

What are the major challenges people face while Memorizing the Qur'an?

1. Lack of consistency: Many often start learning the Qur'an but lack consistency. After a while, they stop learning or get stuck on a particular chapter.

2. Improper pronunciation of letters: At times, some people claim to have learnt the Qur'an but whenever they recite, they mispronounce the letters or don't apply the Tajweed rules

3. Poor Retention of verses: Here is a general issue every learner must face. Struggling to recall verses or memorize is part of the journey. Some verses could be similar in other chapters or not not well memorized

However, whatever the challenge one faces, it isn't enough to stop or get tired.

Remember: Every journey has its difficult and challenging time. Only those who persist eventually achieve their aim
