The 2026 Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Week (MNCHW) was officially flagged off today in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The event was graced by the Honourable Commissioner for Health, the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs, Local Government Chairmen, the District Head, and other distinguished government officials, alongside civil society organizations and humanitarian actors, demonstrating a shared commitment to improving the health and well-being of women and children across the state.

Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Week serves as an important platform for delivering essential health and nutrition services, promoting healthy practices, and expanding access to life-saving interventions for mothers, newborns, and children.

Pro-Wellness Humaniterian Initiative was proud to participate in this significant event and join other stakeholders in reaffirming our collective commitment to ensuring that every mother and every child has access to quality healthcare services.

Strengthening Early Identification of Malnutrition Among Children in Jere LGA

Early identification is critical to preventing malnutrition and ensuring children receive the care they need to grow, thrive, and reach their full potential.

As part of our commitment to supporting child health and nutrition, our team conducted community-based nutrition screening for children across communities in Jere LGA. The exercise enabled the early identification of children at risk of malnutrition and facilitated timely referral to appropriate nutrition services for further assessment and care.

With the lean season increasing the vulnerability of many households, regular nutrition screening remains an essential intervention for protecting children from the devastating effects of malnutrition and improving health outcomes.

Every child deserves the opportunity to survive, grow, and thrive. Strengthening early detection and access to nutrition services is a vital step toward achieving that goal.

Strengthening Community Action Against Cholera in Elmiskin Camp

As cholera prevention efforts continue, Pro-wellness Humanitarian Initiative remains on the ground engaging community members with critical messages on cholera prevention, environmental hygiene, safe water handling, and the importance of seeking timely medical care when symptoms are identified.

To further reduce the risk of transmission, Pro-wellness is collaborating with UNICEF and the Borno State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA) to support environmental disinfection activities across Elmiskin Camp.

Preventing cholera requires collective action. Together, through awareness, improved hygiene practices, and a shared commitment to public health, we can protect lives and strengthen community resilience.

Strong leadership is the foundation of sustainable impact and meaningful change.

We are proud to celebrate the successful participation of our Executive Director, Ugonne Firdausi, in the five-day Advanced Leadership Programme funded by UN Women and facilitated by the GOTNI Leadership Centre in Abuja.

We extend our sincere appreciation to UN Women for its visionary investment in women's leadership across Nigeria. By convening women leaders from across the country, UN Women reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening women's leadership and empowering a new generation of changemakers capable of driving transformation at every level of society.

The programme provided a valuable platform for learning, reflection, collaboration, and networking among accomplished women leaders from diverse backgrounds and states. It reinforced an important reality: when women are intentionally equipped to lead, they strengthen institutions, influence policies, inspire communities, and contribute significantly to national development.

Special appreciation to the UN Women Country Representative Beatrice Eyong for her dedication to advancing women's leadership and creating opportunities that continue to amplify the voices and impact of women across Nigeria.

We also commend Linus Okorie and the entire GOTNI Leadership Centre for delivering a rich and transformative learning experience that challenged participants to embrace leadership as a tool for service, influence, and lasting impact.

At Pro-Wellness Humaniterian Initiative , we are excited about the opportunities that come with this renewed knowledge and perspective. We remain committed to translating these lessons into stronger organizational leadership, improved service delivery, meaningful partnerships, and greater impact in the communities we serve.

Thank you, UN Women and the GOTNI Leadership Centre, for investing in women who are shaping a better Nigeria.

Northern Nigeria is bearing the brunt of interlocking shocks — insecurity and conflict, mass displacement, economic hardship, climate change impacts and high food insecurity levels that are pushing millions of people to the brink of survival ahead of the June to August lean season.

The region also has a forced displacement crisis. Most IDPs live in host communities, intensifying pressure on household food access during the lean season.

Humanitarian partners are responding but they need all hands on deck to bridge the gap in funding for the 2026 Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan (HNRP) for the North-East and the Operational Plan for the North-West.

Behind every sachet of RUTF is a child fighting for a chance to live.

For a severely malnourished child, RUTF is more than food—it is medicine, hope, and recovery.
When it is sold, shared, or diverted, that child loses a part of their chance to heal.

Let's protect every sachet and ensure it reaches the child it was intended for.
Because every child deserves the opportunity to grow, thrive, and dream.
