Maiduguri and Environs Flood Alert!

Updated information indicates that the water level in Galtamari, Fori/old GRA, Lagos Street, etc, has increased, flooding homes in some cases with water beyond waist level.

Kindly monitor your environment for possible flooding and temporarily relocate if you reside in any of those locations as the water levels might continue to increase more as we approach the peak of the rainy season.

As of today, sources already reported significant water level increase in River Ngadda (Lagos Street River) and River Gadabul (Modu Ganari River), leaving houses within the river area submerged. Also, several houses/residents around 505 housing estate, Gwange ward, and Lagos Street opposite today’s stores are currently submerged. This is likely to continue as we continue to experience heavy downpour, which might likely affect the carrying capacity of Lake Alau and possibly Lagdo Dam in Cameroon.

ADVISORY:
1. We should be prayerful, seek Allah's forgiveness and protection.
2. If evacuation appears necessary, turn off all utilities at the power switch and gas valves.
3. Avoid areas subject to flooding (lowlands, riverbanks, etc).
4. Avoid driving through flooded areas and standing water as low as 6 inches.
5. Monitor local news for updates and security platforms.
6. Communicate with colleagues, friends, and family around the area to be sure they are good.
