NIGERIAN YOUTH FOR PEACE INITIATIVE BORNO STATE CHAPTER IN COLLABORATION WITH NATIONAL YOUTH COUNCIL OF NIGERIA BORNO STATE CHAPTER AND YOUTH ASSEMBLY OF NIGERIA BORNO STATE CHAPTER.

The Nigerian Youth for Peace Initiative Borno State Chapter host a programme Theme (The Coalition Of Borno State Youth Leaders For Peace, Unity And Prosperity) On 22nd February 2024.

The program aim to dialogue with all aggrieved youth factions within the State to broker a lasting peace accord that will foster reconciliation and cohesion amongst youths within the state with aim of creating a united and formidable youth movement that can tackle pertinent issues within the society.

Every generation is limited by what it knows, and we (youths) are responsible for the next leg of our journey—let us tap into the wisdom and experience of the elders to build on what they have done by adopting advancements that are in line with global best practices.

The youth represents a diverse pool of talents, ideas, and fresh perspectives that can breathe new life into borno state. Engaging young minds in decision-making processes can lead to innovative policy solutions and a departure from the conventional approaches that have sometimes hindered progress. Including youth in all discourse ensures that the voices of all segments of the population are heard, fostering an environment where solutions are driven by inclusivity and diversity among our youth leaders.

Key issues are Address with different forms of disadvantage, exclusion, and marginalisation young people face, including poverty, lack of employment among youth's, lack of quality education ranging from primary level to tertiary institutions, unsafe environments, lack of transparency, limited upportunies, lack of sufficient experience on innovation, poor healthcare and education, among others are discussed.

Leaders emphasise to set up and support platforms for youth to represent their voices and experiences and to partner with each other to work towards unity peace and prosperity together under a single umbrella.

Open channels and spaces for youth from across diverse backgrounds to work together and build a shared vision of a peaceful world; advocate for human rights and against violence in any form; strengthen capacities and skills of their peers; and advocate for youth and gender-inclusive peace negotiations and processes..

Develop equal partnerships with youth organisations to support youth-led and youth-owned peace initiatives as well as representation of young people in decision-making processes at all levels.

Create safe online and face-to-face spaces for youth to work together, learn from each other, and receive support and training from peers and more senior experts. This should include access to mental health support to help them deal with any trauma they may have.

Support the change in the mindset of authorities and gatekeepers to alter our perception and treatment of young people. Strengthen capacities to our youth's so that critical international policies are operationalised internationally, nationally and locally to support local populations.

However, the tendency to ignore youth and to consider the younger generations as prone to violence and radicalisation has presented unique challenges to youth inclusivity in peace processes and requires tailored pathways for change. By not investing sufficiently in young people’s agency in peace and unity processes and beyond, the Borno state is missing out on a significant ‘peace among our youth's and we can challenge that together if we work together.
